Kleinruppin forever

If you liked Goodbye Lenin, and are nostalgic for the eighties and former

communist countries, this movie is for you!

It's nothing more than a light comedy, so don't expect too much, but it can be very entertaining at times, and also nice without being cheesy (even if

shamelessly quoting La Boum!).

It gives you a smile and a little message, so what else can you ask for?

There's a strong supporting cast, and some cleverly-worked out plot twists. Of course you have to have been a teenager in the eighties to get it!

Tim, who lives in West-Germany, has a complicated relation with his rich parents, but he loves girls and they love him. In the club he favors sweet drinks with umbrellas that he drink in the company of his loyal and less popular skanks. The year is 1975, and Tim just won a Tennis heat that gave him a stipendiary to go to Florida. Tims dad does not like the idea of his son being a tennis champion. He would rather have a smart son who took care of his company.

On a field trip to East, Tim suddenly meets his twin brother. Tim brags about his rich life and luxury. His brother Rennie takes his chance and knocks Tim unconscious, cuts his hair off and takes his place on the bus back to the West. Tim, angry and lost, must now live his brothers life, every day, and his brat lifestyle brings him a lot of problems on the way. But in the darkest hour, there's light - the girl.

I always looked forward to watch this movie about GDR, but I haven't expected such a boring one.

The ideas and regards to details of the gdr in this film are good (for example: the names of the main characters: Ronny and Jana are typical east German names, and the name Tim is typical west German, or the Popper Haircut, which was very famous in Germany in the eighties, there are more very funny details you recognize if you lived in the gdr) , but I always had the feeling the director knows less about dramaturgy. I was just bored by the time and hoped the movie would be end soon.And even the main character is a catchy guy, i don't think he can act. If you liked "Sonnenallee", "Goodbye Lenin" or "Live of the others" which are very good movies, don't expect too much of "kleinruppin forever".
