I saw it first when I was all of '8' (now I own a copy), and the feature instantly left a deep impression of itself on me. The kind of detail that is captured in it can only be a master's work, It is so real you can almost live it, it depicts an era and its attached strings and how they tie us to our roots, how the sense of duty must put over any other in order to be of any worth, and it is done with such perfection that you cannot help but appreciate it with all your soul.
Smita Patil's ventures has always been about her mature handling of the character and astonishingly firm execution of her part in accordance with the whole, she never cease to amaze including this time as (Paramjit) who stands up against odds to protect her family's self-respect, (Binder) Raj Babbar is as amazing as he will always be, strong, straight, forthcoming and witty all at once as a lover who is ready to sacrifice her love (Seebo) to support her in her tough decision, (Seebo) Amrita Singh has this rare and exquisite thing that makes her stand apart in the crowd, aka charm, assertiveness and chirp at the same time, a strong deliverer of emotions and dialogs, husky voice and über sensuality that needs no obscene audacity to be conveyed. She is totally en-teasing as the adolescent country girl with golden dreams of love in her eyes... who turns into a strong willed woman of conviction driven by her sense of duty and love for her family... Its a must see!!
((Binder and Seebo finally meets in the end))

The Waaris movie begins with a real divergent scene, murder of father by hands of his son over agricultural property will. Amrish Puri is so ruthless and resolute in this movie which can be said as his best role of all times as a villain. Then movie slows down a bit and picks up pace again when Amrish Puri returns from jail. Brilliant performance by Smita Patil and Amrish Puri. Other actors also play their part well but Amrish Puri and Smita Patil have done awesome performance. Story and plot are great and direction too. It relates very well with real rural India of 1988 and thrills u too. A must watch movie for people who like serious cinema.
Waaris review :
Last notable release of Smita Patil. Her voice was dubbed by Rekha as she couldn't complete the dubbing. Both Smita and Amrita Singh were extraordinary here but Waaris was tad too arty for the aam junta. A decent success, nevertheless!!
