Questioned over this decision at the Edinburgh TV Festival today, ITV Content boss Kevin Lygo said he “felt it was a bit much for us to jump on the bandwagon and just deny these shows to go out.”

“We didn’t know the details,” he added, before clarifying that Weekend Kitchen was pre-recorded. “We asked the producers if they had heard of any incidences [of bad behavior from Torode] and they said no.”

Lygo refused to say whether he would have continued airing the MasterChef season featuring Wallace and Torode once they had been sacked, a move that the BBC made. “You never know the full story of what has gone on,” he added. “I think the BBC are capable of making that judgement.”

That’s the position of new BBC content chief Kate Phillips, who was asked why more was not done to tackle allegations about Gregg Wallace years before he was fired from MasterChef.

Celebrity MasterChef contestant Aasmah Mir told the BBC that Wallace’s behavior was “unacceptable and cannot continue” after accusing the presenter of making sexist remarks.

Yanin Campos, the Chihuahua native who twice braved the high-pressure kitchens of MasterChef Mexico, has died at 38 following a tragic early-morning car crash. Campos was a survivor of one of Mexico’s most competitive culinary battlegrounds and placed sixth in 2018, returning the following year for La Revancha.

A local newspaper reported the news of a car crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 2, in Campos' hometown of Chihuahua, Mexico. Authorities stated that she lost control of her SUV, reportedly a black Gmc Terrain, and collided with a parked vehicle around 6:30 a.m. local time. She was then rushed to Christus Muguerza del Parque (also referred to as Hospital del Parque), where she remained in critical condition for two days before succumbing to her injuries on Monday, August 4.

Later, her brother, Raúl Campos, shared the heartbreaking news via a public Facebook post addressed “To family and friends.

Exclusive: Neon16, the company founded by former Sony Music boss Tommy Mottola, Lex Borrero and reggaeton producer Tainy, is set to produce content with the parent company of chef and former MasterChef judge Aarón Sánchez after striking a partnership.

Neon16 has struck a deal with Mecenas, which owns Sánchez’s company Cocina.

The two companies are developing long and short-form content that they say is “emotionally resonant” and “socially impactful” and focuses on “cross-cultural segments”, particularly in the brand space.

Neon16 comprises of Ntertain Studios and culture marketing agency. The deal will leverage Neon16’s access to talent such as Tainy, Alex Ponce, Frank Rio and Will Smith, which it recently signed to its record label, while Mecenas will handle distribution.

The BBC has moved forward with the decision to air the latest season of U.K. MasterChef, filmed before its hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode were fired.

Both presenters were axed last month after a Banijay-commissioned report maintained allegations of inappropriate behavior on the set of the popular cooking show.

The BBC cut ties with Wallace after 45 claims against him were upheld, the majority of them relating to inappropriate sexual language and humor but also culturally insensitive and racist comments over a 19-year period. Wallace has since apologized, but insisted he is “not a groper.”

Torode was let go after it emerged in the report that another individual was claimed to have made a racist remark. The Australian star later wrote on social media: “For the sake of transparency, I confirm that I am the individual who is alleged to have used racial language on one occasion,” adding that...
