beware of imitations

The internet being the peculiar mess and muddle that it is, a search for this title will find you not Lightning Love but a Russian copy of The Midnight Cabaret which is for some bizarre reason entitled Lightning Love. Nil desperandum. A search for Lighting Love (sic) will find you the right film, albeit in a ghastly "commentated" version (aka A Jaimito no le parte un rayo)

The other viewer notes that a similarly cast THE MIDNIGHT CABARET is often mistaken for this film. However, there's little beyond the cast to make me think this might be th r movie. Indeed, the story line is entirely different. The

As to the movie itself, it shows the typically well executed Semon gags, which seem to be repeated from movie movie. The one that is different is the expensive one at the end, when a house is placed on rockers and moved from site to site. Even though Semon's movies remained popular -- particularly in Italy, for some reason -- the expense of his productions would cause Vitagraph to drop him as unprofitable.
