Nova

This has been a long-standing PBS series that is the gold standard for documentary series.

I remember watching as a child with fascination one episode about the Voyager spacecraft, and another about whales.

I have watched Nova for years. I don't know when I started watching Nova. I wish I knew.

I like Science so I always find Nova exciting. I don't like every episode equally. But, mostly I think I learn something for having spent 55 minutes watching Nova.

Nova is so relaxing that it makes me sleepy. The narrators are so calming. For me it would be the perfect show to watch before going to sleep at night.

Nova seems to have shows about everything to do with science. There have been episodes on math, Einstein, Architecture. I remember one episode was about how a great pyramid might have been built. A group of people was trying to build their own pyramid.

Nova also has episodes on hacking, storms, driverless cars, robotics, earthquakes. Basically if it has to do with science Nova probably has an episode about it.

Its impossible for me to think of my favorite episode of Nova. There are so many episodes. Well probably my favorite episode of Nova had to do with a Darpa competition for robots. I also liked one on driverless cars.

I won't say nova is a can't miss show for me. But, I do enjoy watching it sometimes.

I watch this show sometimes. I think their subject matter is great. And the guests they have on are also great. But the current narrator (as of 2025) sounds like she's talking to junior high schoolers. She makes me feel like that. The guests don't, just the narrator. She doesn't sound like a scientist. I want someone who sounds like a scientist, not a melodramatic junior high school teacher. I want someone who talks at me as if I'm an adult. The cable channels can do that, why can't NOVA?

Sometimes I wonder if it's the directing & writing, not just the narrator. If so, yuck. I used to love this show.

I've been hooked the great PBS series since the 1970s

A previous reviewer accused "Nova" of dumbing down science. I disagree. The PBS series looks at almost ever scientific topic, breaking it down so that everyone can understand it. The series shows us that there is so much to learn about the universe, and even our own world. Whether it's environmental issues, reproduction, or invention, there's so much to learn. Anyone hoping to know more about anything should definitely watch it.

I understand that creator Michael Ambrosino based "Nova" on the BBC's "Horizon". I've never seen that one, so I can only take this one at face value. The conclusion is that it's one of the best shows out there. I recommend it.
