Hotter After Dark

I enjoyed Mort Shuman's ambitious HOT EROTIC DREAMS for its interesting original jazz soundtrack, but this earlier film HOTTER AFTER DARK is n.s.g.

Amateurish acting abounds as private eye Mike reluctantly takes Mrs. Starr's case to get incriminating evidence against her husband for a divorce. Mike provides hard-boiled narration, and sexploitation content is introduced early on in the form of a hot stripper type as mistress.

This case is completed with Mike getting the desired photos and a couple of topless scenes.

Movie begins again with second case involving tall & sultry Judy, who seduces Mike in a sex scene that is over in a flash. She works as a lab ass't to a doctor who's working on perfecting a device that will increase human lifespan to 250 years. They need Mike as a bodyguard to protect the valuable formula.

A bad guy in drag fools Mike, and we're treated to a strong sex scene with Judy, but a reel is missing (apparently) from the film when Mike finally figures out that the maid is a man. There's a sexy dancer, a clothed shower for two and a romantic bedroom scene, but the second section of the film leads nowhere.

Obviously missing footage is part of the problem. but this movie with its two distinct parts doesn't hold one's interest. The AFI catalog of all films released during the '60s mentions in its plot synopsis that Mike proposes marriage but that is missing from this print.
