- Filippos (Philip) Ageloutsos is a highly-educated language teacher, but he is struggling financially. He is the only breadwinner in his family, and he has to financially support his rather incompetent relatives. Meanwhile, a local cabaret has problems of its own. It is competing with other cabarets and brothels in order to attract sailors of the United States Navy who frequent the area during their shore leave, but most of the the cabaret girls do not speak English and can't actually talk to their clients. Filippos is hired to train the girls, and he discovers that his new job is far more profitable than his previous assignments. Meanwhile, he starts to realize that his relatives are taking advantage of him and he tries to emancipate himself.—Dimos I
