Adas is a film director. As he says that, he has always been "the second". In everything. He lives in the shadow of his older brother and desperately wants to make a change in his life. Actually, being in his position, everyone would want that - unsuccessful marriage, bad childhood and now - no professional success...

In the first scene we see Adas in the morgue. It is then, when he takes us on a tour through his sad life.

The movie title ("Nothing funny") is a bit ironic. Adas' life is full of hilarious events, yet for him this is not as funny, as for a third person. The picture is enjoyable to watch, yet one would need some insight into the reality of Poland in the very early 1990's to understand all the jokes.

Above all remember: this is not how real life in Poland looks :D

It is true that Polish director Marek Koterski belongs to the same group of filmmakers who were all an integral part of what was known as "Cinema of the moral anxiety" in Poland, his comedy films are different from other serious drama films made by his contemporaries. At a time when drama became an acceptable concept for most Polish film directors, Koterski chose to make comedy films namely "The House of Fools" (1984) and Inner Life (1986) which were faithful account of comic situations involving ordinary citizens under communist rule. In current times, the making of "Nothing funny" must be considered as a landmark event for Polish cinema as it has revealed itself as a comedy film with a difference. Firstly, it is funny and even goes beyond the traditional definition of funny as it uses the medium of cinema to deride the profession of cinema. Secondly, it shows that there is no other better authority than a film director to do justice to the portrayal of a director's mind especially all his weird fantasies including sexual fantasies. This is what we get to see in this film whose comical incidents derive their source from some very ordinary situations of one's mundane existence. It appears that Koterski has made a conscious decision of not hurting the sensibilities of his viewers as his film might appear a little mischievous but it never attempts to be offensive. Polish actor Cezary Pazura is a real joy to watch as he portrays his mentor's professional life with great personal involvement.

sorry to say but it WAS funny, it WASN'T stupid and it was not at all so flat as you think dear lady from Gdynia. In fact Koterski in all his movies has the same character Adao Mia³czyñski who is a sad, tragic character not able to deal with his own life not to mention the responsibility for other things. You can say that this kind of aesthetic is not for you but you can't say it's stupid. I hate polish comedies but comparing this movie to "Road Trip" or othe American Pies movies is like comparing Truman Show to Ace Ventura.This is rather a satire on the polish movie industry and the role and life of an artist (movie director) Great thing, maybe not as brilliant and innovative as Koterski latest "Dzieñ Owira" but really stands out from all the crap served by polish producers.

There aren't many movies where the title fits the content so well. In my opinion there's really nothing funny there. Love and sex problems of Adas are described in a way similar to movies like "Road Trip" or "American Pie". I think I'm going to have nightmares after watching that scene with the pneumatic penis. Just disgusting !

Marek Koterski is considered a celebrity director in Poland. I saw three of his movies and I really can't understand why. It's just not my type of cinema.

I think that this film is one of the best Polish comedies (including of course "Kiler" and "Kilerow dwoch")of the 90's. Almost every scene offers you a good laugh and this is one of the movies you could see a thousand times. Cezary Pazura, who became a Star in Poland shows again, that he is the personification of Polish humor. My favorite scenes are the one with the phone booth ("The wolves!")and the elevator. ("Are you going up?"- "No, to the side!") And-because the penis scene is criticized by a fellow IMDb user- it simply cannot be compared to similar gags in stupid teen-sex-comedies. In "Nic smiesznego" you will find a humor of a dry, black and partly even sad kind.
