Chôjin jusatsu hen

I saw this "movie" twice... the first time was a two-hour English dubbed version that packed the first three or four episodes into one full-on demonic assault. Never has Tokyo been destroyed so well... I was thoroughly confused but seriously into it. The immense amount of violence, and strong sexual content (and that's putting it lightly), are, at times, unnecessary, but not too offensive. The plot is pretty deep and involved (especially for an anime of this nature), and at times it gets downright cool! The dubbed version ends with a rather huge cliffhanger, and I was left hanging and jonesing for another installment in the worst way...

So I promptly went out in search of the rest of the saga... and that's how I came across the entire series in Japanese with English subtitles... and that's where everything went to hell. I watched the first four episodes (essentially the unedited version of the dubbed copy) and became wary. Every part that had been cut out involved violent sexual scenarios of the more disturbing ilk... nothing all that ground breaking, mind you, just pretty dammed disturbing. Nevertheless I watched the first four episodes and wasn't all that unhappy... the plot was a little more comprehensive, and, as everyone knows, the anime was much better in the original Japanese... the parts that had been cut for the English were more or less unnecessary, but, as I said, not too nauseating. Then I watched the rest of the series...

I probably missed something vital in the sensory onslaught but as far as I could tell, they had thrown the plot pretty much completely in the trash and moved on to hard-core anime porn. By the sixth or seventh episode I wasn't even watching the movie... I was too busy calculating the average number of male genitals used in the rape of every single girl that happened to walk on screen (I think the number was around eight). And to make matters worse there was still no real conclusion at the end of the horrific thing... the cliffhanger was even exactly the same!

Legend of The Overfiend is the only anime I have ever seen that is better, nay required, when seen in the dubbed version... don't bother with the Japanese, you're not missing anything.

Created by Japanese comic artist Toshio Maeda, Urotsukidoji opens up the mystical demonic truth of the darker realms of imagination. Most people in world have beliefs of a peaceful God creating earth in seven days. This god had many names; Budda, Jesus, Guru's, but all are false. The acutal god who created the earth was the eternal Super Man. This being had three dimentions for earth created; the demon world, the beast people world, who delight in violence and sexual pleasures, and ours the human world which conists of flesh and blood. The holy legend of the beast people's world says that every 3000 years, the great one known as the superman, appears through the body of a human male every dawning of 3000 years, in order to unite the 3 worlds. The unification of the 3 worlds will result in a whole world of peace and harmony. One such boy of the beast man world, Amano Jyaku, developed a growning obession of this Legend. He traveled to the human world along with his erotic sister Megumi to look for the most likely candidate. The year is 1989 now, and Amano has being searching for the great one for over 300 years. But now the time has come. The demons and the beast people sense the coming of the Superman--"The Birth." The two world relise that they must act soon. The only problem is that the beast people want to make sure that the birth of the superman comes out as planned, where as the demons know the real results after the superman's birth. With time hanging in the balance, and powerful sinister forces confronting Amano and his sister...what will the final result be?

This,like Akira, was one of the many movies that first opened up Japanese animation to the UK. Urotsukidoji also inspired other companies like Kiseki and AD vision to release other preverted adult anime titles like Adventure Kid (Toshio Maeda) and the Hankkden. The BBFC weren't very friendly with these movies, and had to cut 2 minutes out of the film; the rape scene in the hospital, and the ending between Negumo and Akemi in the locker room. Through the later years of Urotsukidoji, the animators along with the preversed Toshio Maeda, stepped up the sexual inuendo and demonic satire to make the series more darker and atmospheric. When the 5th series was released in 1995, the violence and sex got a little out of hand, and so a western release was without a doupt,-void!

A superb wacky series that has something for everyone whether it be sex, action, drama, horror, or shear animation quality!!!
