Phool Aur Angaar

It was 1993.Mithun just left Mumbai to ooty and started his dream factory of releasing films one after another. The formula behind the making of these films were very simple.Low budget films with low paid supporting actors and actresses subsequently shooting of films were done around Hotel of Mithun situated at ooty.Film was made within month and ready for release.Two weeks run in Bengal and in traditional Hindi Belt were enough to recover the money.Besides that cast and crew of the film would reside in Mithun's Hotel at subsidy provide double profit for both Mithun and Producer.But in this junction three time National Award winner has given some films which are still worth to watch.Phool Aur Angaar is among one of them.A simple revenge story will be remembered for awesome Music and Mithun's Powerful Performence.Mithun Chakraborty, Professor of a College faced henious crime and conspiracy from the goons led by Prem Chopra , Arjun and Pares Rawal. Mithun's sister was brutally raped and murdered by the goons and Mithun was made guilty for that.In the Second half of the film Mithun got the revenge.Performence of Mithun was simply power-packed.His action, emotion made you spellbound.Acting of Mithun in some scenes were spectacular, particularly in a Court scene where tired, heavily wounded Mithun who saw henious crime against her Sister still protested against the false allegations made against him in the Court by the goons. Music by Anu Malik was extra ordinary.Songs like Chori Chori Dil Tera Churaange or Mujko Pina Hain were the Chartbusters.South Indian Actress Shantipriya looks good pairing with Mithun.Prem Chopra, Paresh Rawal and Arjun in negative roles are okay. If you are a Mithun's fan, Phool Aur Angaar is definitely a Perfect ten film for you.

Phool aur Angaar is a violent Bollywood Movie. Mithun who is an underrated actor makes a fine movie. The plot of the film focuses on a ruthless gang whom Mithun gets involved in. He gets framed for raping his sister. This movie is disturbing at times. Apart from Disco Dancer, Pratigyabadh and ek aur Sikandar. This is One of Mithun's finest Movies. Mithun delivers a POWERHOUSE Perfromance. The Actress is quite pretty, but hasn't made much Bollywood films. The movie does have one nice song (Chori Chori). Mithun delivers a great performance. The film does have a weakness, which is the typical Mithun / Sunny Deol Type fault. This is the action scenes, Mithun fighting so many guys alone which is repeated in many films. Bollywood is slowly improving in the action scenes. If you enjoyed some of Mithuns work, then watch this movie.

1993 flick 'Phool Aur Angaar' is one of the finest films to come out of Bollywood. An awesome film. The script is great, the performances are top-notch and amazing songs, make this film a power-packed entertainer. The film was a Blockbuster at the box office, and It deserved to be.

Songs: Chori Chori Dil Tera and Hum Teri Mahobbat Mein are amazing. Mujhko Peena Hai and the title are track are also great. One of Anu Malik's finest works as a music director.

Performances: Mithun Chakraborty is a Legendary actor, my all-time favorite actor, His performance here is fantastic. He plays the teacher naturally, but leaves you speechless as the cold-blooded killer. Shantipriya looks very beautiful and does a decent job. Prem Chopra excels, especially when he delivers his line 'Natwar Naam Hai Mera, Pyar Se Log Mujhe NAUGHTY' Khete Hain. Gulshan Grover is excellent. Arjun causes hatred. Monish Bhel, Asrani, Raza Murad and others are good. Late actors Lakshmikant and the actor who plays the conniving cop are good.

'Phool Aur Angaar' is a memorable watch. Two Big Thumbs Up!

Phool Aur Angaar review :

A comeback film for Mithun Chakraborty who had a string of flops from 1991 onwards; Phool Aur Angaar brought the Bengal tiger back in the forefront of Bollywood. The film went through its share of hiccups with the censor board who gave it an A certificate as Mithun da is accussed of raping his own sister (played by Sanam). There was also an elaborate gang rape scene of Sanam which was toned down in the final cut. Another scene where the villain Arjun is shown molesting a minor was also trimmed out.

Not many know that producer Salim Akhtar approached Ajay Devgn for the lead role in Phool Aur Angaar but Ajay quoted an astronomical amount for the film as he was riding high on super success of Phool Aur Kaante (1991) as well as Salim's own Jigar (1992). Salim then took the project to Mithun da who surprised him saying that he would take the same amount quoted by Ajay but do three films with Salim in that remuneration. Thus, a three film deal was struck and Phool Aur Angaar, Aadmi (1993) and The Don (1995) were shot and released almost back to back with two films turning out to be hits and one average.

'Chori Chori Dil Tera Churayenge' topped the charts of the popular Superhit Muqabla show on then newly started DD Metro channel. The song is still hummable. Another number I like is the ched chaad wala 'Aashiq Pukaro Aawara Pukaro' picturised on Mithun and Shanti Priya.

Prem Chopra's "Natwar naam hai mera. Pyaar se log mujhe Naughty kehte hai" became a big hit in schools and colleges. Overall, Phool Aur Angaar was a comeback film for Mithun after a string of flops in early '90s. The film will always be special for his fans like me.
