W bialy dzien

I saw "W bialy dzien" (In broad daylight) in 1981 and liked it a lot. As far as I can remember, the film was praised by the critics, and Michal Bajor received a prize for his acting. The plot is set in 1905 in present-day Poland, which was then part of Russia and Austro-Hungary. Michal Bajor plays the young revolutionary who kills the Russian officer while acting on the orders of his superiors, but he is then set by doubts and remorse. But I think that the settings of time and place are not that important, and this story is universal and vaguely reminiscent of "Crime and Punishment" by Dostoyevsky and "The Secret Agent" by Joseph Conrad. The film was directed by Edward Zebrowski, who was involved only in a small number of works, but all of them were of high quality. I was fascinated by several things: the plot itself, the intensity of moods, the expressive camera work, and the electrifying performance of Michal Bajor (whom I previously had seen on stage in Warsaw in a very good production of "Equus" by Peter Schaffer). Some additional value of this movie is the participation of many popular actors at that time, like Krystyna Janda, Gustaw Holoubek, and Krzysztof Kolberger.
