Joe and Sons

The other reviewer may be confusing Joe and Sons with Joe's World, from about four years later, also cancelled after one year, with K Callan as the wife and mother of five kids (first time I saw her. You don't forget a woman with a one letter name) and Christopher Knight as the eldest son, and I do indeed recall his precious hair being touched or swatted and his reaction a la Travolta from Saturday Night Fever, tho Knight's hair was not all permed up like Travolta's

Even still, I do recall Joe and Sons and they mistakenly believed they had marijuana growing in a flower pot and Jerry Stiller began consuming it very quickly. That makes three shows of "someone growing weed" - Sanford & Son, Three's company and here. Both shows were not on very long. It might be cool sometime to see them back-to-back, as was done on one cable show with It's About Time and My Mother, The Car, or as Nickelodeon did with Mr. Ed and Patty Duke show.

The show I remember was called "The Super" starring Richard S. Castellano and, although your information doesn't show it, I could have sworn the son was played by Bruce (a/k/a Bruno) Kirby and that there was a wife and son in the picture, too. The best thing I remember is Catellano's character swatting the kid in the back of the head for doing or saying something stupid and Kirby's great comeback line: "Hey Pop!" Castellano was always one of my favorite (if not most favorite) character actor. He had the down-to-earth, guy next door, everyman quality that made you relate to him. He could make something as mundane as teaching the future Godfather to fry sausages something entertaining. He was a big bear of a guy with a heart of gold. He died much MUCH too young.

This was a simple, yet funny show because it was both earthy and innocent at once. My favorite episodes were (1) Joe and Gus trying to hide what they thought was Bobby's marijuana plant, and Jerry Stiller trying to hide it by eating it; or (2) the one where Nick was wetting the bed. But the best moment on screen was when Aunt Josephine wanted them to tell that they loved her, and Joe couldn't say it. But when Nick lovingly said "I love you, Aunt Josephine!" She said "Thank you Nick--here's 5 dollars!" Joe piped right up and forced out, "I...love...you...Aunt Josephine." Maybe you had to be there. Too bad it only lasted a short time. (btw Jimmy Baio was Scott Baio of Happy Days' cousin, right?)
