Dawn!

Parochial, self-conscious, suburban drivel concerning an overbaked theme and presented by amateurish new actors together with a few worn-out small-pond veterans. Budget was low, and production gives the impression that the crew spent more time looking in a mirror than making a film. This film has been almost totally forgotten for good reasons.

This film is a bit pedestrian in its storytelling but it is redeemed by the beautiful Bronwyn Mackay-Payne as Dawn Fraser. She is also quite believable as an Olympic athlete and has a strong sensual presence. While this film is not on the level of Personal Best it is quite watchable and absorbing thanks to Ms. Mackay-Payne. I had hoped to see her work as the years passed but I have not had that pleasure. Was she herself an Olympic caliber athlete ? Since she was neither petite nor blond it is probable that significant roles were not forthcoming. So many films and TV programs feature young blond actors who can not act and seem to resemble each other.
