The Japanese master Kenji Mizoguchi who gave us some gems as WOMAN OF THE NIGHT, UGETSU and masterpiece THE LIFE OF OHARU just named what I saw only, nearby his death made another thematic picture concerning Geishas, this turn the main plot is focused in a widow woman owner of a upper class Geisha's house, where her unique daughter tried against your own life by overdose of medicine pills after be rejected by an young suitor due her mother's business.
When she is back from Tokyo his mother advised her personal Geisha's doctor takes care of her weepy daughter, oddly enough the widow old lady has a romantic interest in the young doctor aiming for an upcoming marriage, the still faltering guy would accepts such offer upon some allowance as an own large clinic to work by himself, granted by the lovesick blind old lady, turns out that doctor falling in love by her beauty daughter, meanwhile the sorrow girl appeases her sadness aiding those poorest Geishas there, however the storm is coming.
It's a slow pace melodrama, although the angry viewer has to be patient to be finally reward on final sequences, it bringing some understanding regarding the hardy life those girls at fifties, in a nutshell how many customers are coming more Geishas will be required, it's punch at stomach of the audience, nonetheless it is the real life for this moment, maybe in the future...who knows???
