High Holiday

This is a first I must say. I was nervous about a Stoner movie about Christmas but everything about this was amazing. Jennifer tilly was just amazing! In this movie! This is now one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time.

Liz Corksey (Shannyn Sossamon) is going home for Christmas with boyfriend Santi. She does not get along with her conservative family. Her father Greg Corksey (Tom Arnold) is running for Governor of South Carolina. Liz needs to get high for the dinner and accidentally gets the rest of the family way too high.

None of this is actually funny. I like Sossamon here but very little else. I don't think older Tom Arnold can make a funny movie. In the second half, the movie tries to make a pivot and turn this into a message movie. It is an undeserved turn. They need to set it up more. Maybe the neighbor can talk about those issues directly at the start. I appreciate the sentiment but not the execution.

When the film shows people high on cannabis hallucinate it all went wrong maby they should have made the movie about lsd instead try research before making a movie.

We're in South Carolina, it's December, Liz (Shannyn Sossamon) and her boyfriend Santi (Asif Ali) are laying in bed, smoking some weed. Liz tells she's not looking forward to spending Christmas with the parents (Tom Arnold and Jennifer Tilly). Santi get the idea to make the salad dressing full of weed , to losen up the family. They agree that it's a good idea. The time arrives, it's Christmas. The salad's done. We meet the family, especially noticing Nana (Cloris Leachman, in her last film). Dinner time and as the hours go, the family gets more and more intoxicated.

Now, what then happens should be a funny Christmas film, but really... it is not that funny. The themes are that father runs for a place as the state's governor, the son's homosexual, and this special eve there has been invited a journalist to learn about the family. All this goes more or less wrong. The jokes are not good enough. The script's too thin. Eventually the best thing must be the acting of Cloris Leachman.
