My expectations weren't high for this film, but I still left unsatisfied with the story.
There are definitely more entertaining and better films portraying this classic folktale.
Not a horror movie, but just a horror of surviving watching this drivel. I regretted of my time, my money, and the same thing of all people who worked on this movie.
This adaptation of the traditional Baba Yaga folk story from Russia on first inspection looks like a winner but, well, its not.
Rather than taking the obvious route of a classic, scare filled tale, of a cannibalistic witch, it goes off on what feels like a psychedelic acid trip. There's lots of far out fantasy sequences, with groovy coloured lighting effects, string (yes I did say string) and way out memory lapses.
It's as if the story was re-written as a 60's style hippy horror fest, for reasons I really can't even begin to appreciate.
As a result, its not only not terribly scary, its at times downright silly and feels largely pointless. Which is crying shame, as the acting is solid and the core premise is loaded with horror potential.

"Baba Yaga: Terror of the Dark Forest" is a Horror movie in which we watch a young boy observing the strange behavior of the nanny his parents hired to take care of his sister along with some strange things that happened in his house from the moment the nanny started working there. He starts searching for it but one day her sister gone missing and nobody remembers neither her nor the nanny.
I had high expectations from this movie because of the back story of Baba Yaga but I was disappointed by the result. The plot was simple but nice, there were also some good scenes but despite that the movie was average. There was not any peak in the movie or any interpretation of the cast that I will remember in the future. Lastly, I believe that "Baba Yaga: Terror of the Dark Forest" is just another average horror movie with no surprises or anything new to show so, if you don't want to waste your time and watch another average movie like this, just watch some other horror movie.

Ok so this is really simple:
Visually this film is stunning. I mean it's a true stylistic achievement. However, on a narrative level this film is as dumb as a box of hair. Or maybe this what's up with Russia, what do I know I'm from New Jersey.

- CuriosidadesAlthough the mythological Baba Yaga kidnaps and eats children and seems to go hunting for them throughout the day for her evening meal, she also serves as a catalyst for change. There are a number of tales in which she acts as an agent of transformation, helping the heroine or hero toward self-actualization and the completion of a quest. In this form, Baba Yaga is probably best known from the story Vasilissa the Beautiful in which she inadvertently frees the heroine from the tyranny of her stepmother and stepsisters. And even in the movie, is throughout her terror that the children get noticed, loved and missed by their parents/guardians.
