I am just now watching the series and I'm so glad I made it past the pilot episode. When I heard the laugh track I was very tempted to move on to something else. That would have been a mistake. Granted I am only on the first season, The Neighborhood is funny

Schmidt (yes, he will always be Schmidt from New Girl to me, lol) and Cedric play off of each other so well. Then of course we have PAM (sorry yall, I get stuck on my fave characters) who is obviously funny too. The Neighnorhood is well written and highly entertaining.

One thing I wish though is that there was no laugh track. I hate them so much.

I think a lot of people are missing the point of this show, that despite the cultural differences between black and white people at the end of the day we all want the same thing, the best for our families. It is done with humour and intelligence and quite frankly I'm glad to see it on TV. The juxtaposition of Cedric and Max's tense relationship against Tichina and Beth's open relationship is great. I especially liked the second episode where the different approaches to child rearing were depicted. It showed that sometimes a different approach is needed in order to get the best out of your child.

I am so surprised by all of the negative comments and bad reviews. I absolutely love love the show. It is definitely a fun, light hearted show that takes 30 minutes and let's me laugh out loud! Cedric is hilarious and the cast of Mr. And Mrs. Johnson are great! About time that there is a fun family show and not another violent drama.

In the first 10 mins of pilot, I wanted to give 1 star. Give it time, it will stick.

The show has a great potential. By 3rd or 4th .. You will start loving it and get the idea ..

It took a while for the series to come to Germany, which is why we're lagging behind a bit. The status of the assessment is in the middle of the third season.

The series clearly lives from the game of the protagonists. Above all, of course, Kyles as a grumbler and Greenfield as an optimist. But, that surprised me a bit, the actresses are no less important and, unlike in comparable series, are not of secondary importance, but definitely have their important roles, and not at all as filler or accessories. Not like in series like "According to Jim" or Tim Allen comedies, where a macho fails at best because of the woman's mind. No, it's an equality that has been introduced in the sitcom at least since Roseanne. What the writers should do with the character Grover Johnson doesn't seem entirely clear to them, but it's not uncommon for the child character to be the biggest problem in shows like this. It's different with the two grown-up sons of the Butlers, who are really great characters and are played brilliantly by two actors who are really willing to play.

The plot is typical for sitcoms. A few thoroughly positive ideas, but mostly the usual. It is supplemented by social and political topics, which unfortunately often appear to be presented with a wooden hammer. At least it's never as embarrassing as "Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!" comes over. But the episodes in which Tichina Arnold plays the lead Chistin are really problematic. That's very embarrassing, especially because this religious extremism is meant in the first place. As if a person were only worth something if they believed in the Christian God. Low point the episode with Marty's short-term girlfriend, an atheist. Who was guilty of nothing but not believing in Mother Butler's God. Which immediately jeopardizes the "salvation" of the poor son. This is religiosity of the worst kind.

All in all, it's a mostly entertaining, entertaining series, but it's unlikely to become one of the great classics of the genre. The wait continues for a really good sitcom of the 2020s.

I've read most of these reviews say the show is racist when there is a difference in stereotyping and racist. It's a great mash up of two different stereotype worlds. Also it's a comedy people put yourself aside! I've actually met people like both families. If it were the other way around it still would be funny. Its suppose to be about two different families from two different cultures becoming friends.

I like this show, but the EXCESSIVE use of the laugh track is making it hard to watch. The show doesn't need the laugh track, it is funny on its own. Gone are the days of filming before a live audience - Friends. This show has excellent writing and jokes. It tackles sensitive issues without getting preachy. I am finding that the laugh track is louder than the dialogue - why??? People are smart enough to know when something is funny, just because there is a laugh track doesn't make it funny, just annoying. So PLEASE stop using the laugh track. Not every joke needs the laugh track, let people watch the show and laugh at the parts they think is funny.

The show has a great cast!! Thank you! Thank you! The writers and producers have done a wonderful job at blending the two cultures without causing racial tension that can't be handled in an appropriate manner.

We are all different and we can all live together.

This is what we need on tv these days. It gives a small insight into both cultures. It's educational without most people even realizing it (the people that rated it below 5). The show showcases the stereotypes that both cultures have toward one another and shows us how these situations can be handled peacefully. They don't always agree but they can get along. Nice work!!

Aside from the laugh track I really enjoy the show. The character of Marty is great as he stops by to observe the worst moments of others.

Was very surprised at all the negative people on here. I watched the first episode with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It really has some funny moments in every episode. Is it ground breaking? No, but it has a stellar cast, is extremely earnest, and pushes strong messages in a gentle way.

And I live for the actor playing Marty. He cracks me up every time he's on screen!

Yet it's something different & the cast is good, but ... remember back when actors started by being cast in commercials ?

Now whole shows are the freakin' commercial, amazon this, Geico that, Alexa that, sitting back on the porch akwardly just to showcase the Nike Air Max...

Talk about selling out, i'd care less if the show didn't go for hard-hitting subjects, but hey, it's how it is. Gotta keep the shareholders fat & happy.

How are shows with laugh tracks still being made. It was old in 1993. The fact that anyone wastes their time watching this show is shocking to me.

I really don't understand all the hate and low IMDB score. It isn't the greatest sitcom of all time but it isn't as bad as a lot of people are saying. The plotline is different and sets it apart from boring sitcoms that center around one family with the same overused situations. It has great characters and good actors that portray them. It might not be the funniest out there, but I get enough laughs out of it to enjoy it and the situations in the episodes are fresh compared to other shows.

The only criticism I have is sometimes Max Greenfield way overacts to the point that it's corny, but everything else about it is enjoyable.

Give it a chance.

It's actually pretty good. Finally another family show that isn't a police show, reality show or hospital show.

I will always give Ced a chance and I root for Tachina. She's a funny actor. The writing is not the best but the chemistry is pretty good. I think they're not using Max and Beth properly. They're a lot funnier on their other shows. I'm willing to give it a chance hoping it gets better over time.

It is obvious that most of the reviewers so far on this forum only watched 10 minutes of the first episode. There are 4 episodes out there now and it is a decent sitcom. The laugh track is the biggest problem with this show, makes it hard to watch. Why even need this anymore, in 2018? The best sitcoms out there right now have no fake audience laughing at every single word like this one. The actors in this sitcom are all good. Take out the laugh track, hire a few better writers, and keep it going. Good sitcoms have been hard to find for years now, it is refreshing that there are a few out there now.

It was a cute pilot episode. I'm interested in seeing more. Funny

I'm curious how some of these reviewers expect this show's writers and producers to establish the plot and pave the way for character development without Calvin initially cracking "white jokes" and vocalizing white stereotypes.

This show is about a white family moving to a black neighborhood, mind you an all black neighborhood that was once an all white neighborhood before black people moved in.

But if you give it a chance, Calvin changes. I think this show has its heart in the right place. We can act like racism no longer exists, but we are just fooling ourselves, and I appreciate that this show is coming from a different perspective, and appears to be trying to help us all connect as human beings regardless of race.

In my opinion, The Neighborhood is a show that America needs right now. If it helps open even one pair of eyes from the darkness of racism, it is well worth it.

Granted, there are plenty of cliched stereotypes on the show. The second episode was much funnier than the first one. They have good timing and the acting makes up for dialog. I am a POC who was adopted and grew up in small town in Wisconsin. I can totally see how naive this white couple can be. People live in there little cocoon and are oblivious to other cultures. This show tries to make fun of it in a humorous way without being preachy.

And it failed to meet them all. I had hopes for a Cedric comedy being funny but this was just bad. I understood the concept but it was poorly executed. I am not even going to give this another shot.

I really like this show; all the characters are funny and they have a good chemistry. In my opinion this show is better than these last seasons of Black-ish and all of its spin-off shows.

We have been waiting since the series started this year. My husband says it reminds him of All in the family in reverse! It's not one of the best new shows but it has dealt with topics that face real families. Give it a try, it can only get better!!!

The concept is interesting, but the writing? I felt like i was at a corporate 'tolerance & diversity' training, minus the donuts and coffee.

Just binge watched all 3 of the first 3 episodes and I am hooked, episode 3 being better than the first two, as with any new show it gets better with time. This show is funny and I really love Max Greenfield and he's easy on the eyes. I love both sets of families and I look forward to many more episodes of this awesome show.

At first, the trailer was off-putting. I had no intention of watching this show but I couldn't sleep one night and now I'm halfway through the first season. I got reeled in somehow. Maybe because it's pretty great.

There is something about the cast that really grabbed me. Cedric and Max Greenfield are a given, I knew they would be entertaining. Yet for me, its the ladies that hold it down. Watching Tichina Arnold's and Beth Behrs' natural chemistry is very refreshing.

I'm not a fan of forced racial and stereotype jokes. Many of them could be left out and the show wouldn't lose any of its flare. Like White folks who cook without spice... Stop it. But there are many situations in this situation comedy that need to be addressed and the writers pull it off well. Like the clueless white guy in the Black barbershop but is welcomed with open arms... well done. The best parts of the show is when everyone's differences is painted in a honest but positive light.

Give the show a chance and you'll be surprised how funny it really is.
