The Honeymoon Phase (2019)

Reseñas de usuarios

The Honeymoon Phase

57 reseñas
6/10

Interesting concept that falls apart in the end.

3 out of 5 stars.

The Honeymoon Phase is a fair science fiction thriller film. About a newly wed couple going into an experiment trial. As the company observes how the couple are reacting towards each other for a month. They are given a house. Food. Furniture and supplies. Until the wife starts questioning if her husband is lying to her.

Interesting concept and plot. Could have been so much more. The script does fall apart by the time it reaches its third act. The writer feels like they ran out of ideas on where to go. When the twist is revealed which is surprising. But it falls so quick that it ruined the whole movie. Especially the ending.

The cast did decent with there performances. The direction was okay. The script and ending kind of wasted a good idea to having an uninspired shocking ending.

Fake reviews

I give this one star because of the obviously fake reviews.

It is exasperating that producers/directors/or whoever resort to this stupid tactics. A film is expected to stand on it's own merits, and if whoever makes film can not tolerate public opinion then they shouldn't be in the business.

if public opinion is poor then filmmakers should learn from it and improve their art - not try and create some false delusional perception they have of themselves.

Could have been good

Even though this movie is far from being the first of its kind, there's potential at the beginning for something a bit original. Sadly, it soon turns out the story needed much more work. The ending is ridiculous.

Don't get fooled by the 10/10 reviews, they're all coming from new subscribers who are obviously here on a mission. Some of their nicknames are even related to the movie in a way or another, like johnjcarroll-61039 or bcarroll-37501 (Phillip G. Carroll Jr. directed the movie). Couldn't be more obvious...

Released the same year, Vivarium is in my opinion a much better attempt.

Just a very stupid film

Not too much to say here, bad movie, poorly acted, twists are either poorly built or clearly telegraphed. decently shot!

pretty funny to see the positive reviews from people with the same last name as one of the stars

Waste of time

Some how the guy's haircut isn't the worst part about this film. Build up for quite literally the worst ending possible.

maybe, experiment

An embroidery of genres and twists, having desire to be , in same measure , Sci Fi, thriller, horror, psychological. And becoming only a sort of experiment about an experiment , with indulgence. A couple looking for money, a room, game of apparences and few dramatic touches. Hologrames, tests, surviving cameras, discover the other as stranger and a lot of white. The architecture as only good reason to see.

Good Movie

Different idea from anything else I've seen. I like how they switch back and forth from who's the villain. Definitely fooled me. I actually wished the plot played out longer before it ended.

Disturbing movie, but good

I found this movie good, but very disturbing. It just had me sitting there and thinking about it for a while afterwards. How well do we know someone we think we do? We've seen movies like this before. And they are kinda creepy. Not sure why people are giving it a low grade. It is a decent movie - a lot worse movies got higher ratings. So, in my opinion you can see it.

Honey trap

This is incredibly idiotic from its inception, delivery and execution. The acting is poor and none of the cast were good enough to make this film any thing more than being watchable.

The twist doesn't feel so earned

The film begin with good start and interesting idea, but finally iam very disappointed with the ending, it leads to a reasonably predictable conclusion which is very disappointing in such an otherwise enrapturing movie.

Solid debut showing much promise in the future

I adamantly follow many indie horror filmmakers online and became acquainted with The Carrolls' work on YouTube as far back as 2016. Having been heartbroken many times from seeing many short film filmmakers climb that 'feature film mountain' and not quite stick the landing, I'm always nervous to see anyone's debut features, but I'm wholeheartedly relieved 'that ember' I recognized in them is a 'warm and fiery arrival' to the big stage. Their shorts throughout the years has always been of quality, but their debut reaches an additional tier of polish and effective storytelling that deserves recognition, that 'glass ceiling' many of us horror filmmakers aspire to breakthrough. I truly feel they've 'arrived' and are contenders with much promise that, in the long-term, many will find much thrills and enjoyment from.

A good film memorable for its ending

That puzzle comes to play in the third act, which is brilliant. I won't dare spoil and I liked this film throughout but the twist brings it close to being "great." The direction it takes is surprising and it doesn't feel like it comes out of left field as there are hints sprinkled throughout. There's nothing worse than a twist that comes out of nowhere and doesn't feel earned. The Honeymoon Phase lines up its dominoes perfectly during its set-up and the film earns the surprise as every piece of the puzzle falls into place.

What was the point?

It started out with a good synopsis and was interesting for the first 45 mins then it all went down hill very quickly. The acting becomes pretty horrible around half way through and the ending is just ridiculous and pointless which offers no explanation to what's happening and leaves you wondering what was the point of the whole movie. Very poorly executed and a waste of 90 mins on the aircraft I could have otherwise spent sleeping!

Good dark sci-fi thriller

The Honeymoon Phase is a good indie sci-fi thriller, although definitely dark. The actors are all terrific, especially Tara Westwood as The Handler and Jim Schubin as Tom.

Til Death do us part ... right?

No pun intended - how long can the honeymoon phase be going? How long can you ride the high of being married together, before realizing something about your partner you may not like that much? And what does the locality do to you? Well there are many questions here - some are phrased better than others. And the location or rather the test program adds quite the flavor to the mix.

We know something is wrong - the poster alone gives away that much. We can guess what it is and maybe we are right. Or we just let the movie entertain us, as best as it can. This is a low budget effort and the actors are doing their best ... I'd say it is quite neat. And while not everything makes sense ... the final twist really is ... well it will make or break the movie for you. I think you can see it coming. I've seen worse to be honest.

Horrible on so many levels

This movie is so offensively bad that I had to write a review in hope of saving someone's precious time. The only reason why I gave it a score of 2 instead of 1 is because the film crew bravely showed up on the set even with a script like this.

First of all, the script is dreadful. Human beings don't act like human beings, character motivations are unclear at best, and one of the two main characters is pretentiously A WRITER. Even if you consider only the latter, it's enough to destroy this flimsy storyline.

I won't tell you about the plot, not because I don't want to give you spoilers (an unknown entity that never interacted with humans would be able to see through it in seconds) but because it's not worth explaining. If you want a similar premise but much better execution, go watch "The One I Love" (2014).

The acting is terrible, I hated both of the characters throughout but, I guess, you can't do much with this script, really.

Overall, if you enjoy similar movies, watch "The Invitation" (2015) or "Coherence" (2013). Or even just stare at the wall and your imagination will come up with something better.
