‘Til Tuesday, the ’80s new wave band led by Aimee Mann, reunited for their first live performance in 35 years at the Cruel World Festival in Pasadena, California, on Saturday.
Also featuring original members Robert Holmes (guitar), Joey Pesce (keyboards) and Michael Hausman (drums), ‘Til Tuesday ran through an 11-song set that included their signature hit “Voices Carry,” plus other fan favorites “What About Love,” “Coming Up Close,” and “Love in a Vacuum” and a cover of The Cars’ “Drive.” Watch fan-captured footage below.
Though nothing else is on the books at the moment, Mann didn’t rule out the possibility of further ‘Til Tuesday concerts depending on how their gig at at Cruel World came off. “If I feel like I can do a really good job singing, then I would consider others,” she told Variety. “Because you want to feel like you’re doing a good job. Mickey Gilley, the smooth-voiced, piano-playing country crooner who helped popularize the “Urban Cowboy” movement of the Eighties, died Saturday in Branson, Missouri. He was 86. Gilley’s publicist confirmed the singer’s death.
While Gilley had a run of success in the Seventies singing barroom-piano country ballads and rave-ups like “Room Full of Roses” and “Don’t the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time,” it was his second act in the Eighties — tied to 1980’s box-office hit Urban Cowboy — that turned the Mississippi native into a crossover star.

Exclusive: Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actor, writer, producer, activist and overall queen Taraji P. Henson has signed with M88. Henson will be repped by the entire M88 team, led by new partner Oronde Garrett and co-founder Phillip Sun.
Henson has an acting career that showcases both her range and personality. Most recently, she wrapped Empire where she played the memorable no-nonsense Cookie Lyon. The role earned her three Emmy nominations, a Golden Globe, a Critics’ Choice Award and three BET Awards.
In July, Henson’s production company Tph Entertainment signed a first-look deal with Twentieth Century Fox TV. The first project in development out of the gate is — you guessed it — a Cookie Lyon spinoff series. The agreement with Fox will also include other projects for multiple platforms.
Henson’s breakout performance in Hustle & Flow was a launching pad to stardom. Her credits...

Something is causing the ground to shift underneath a new Chinese suburb in writer-director Qiu Sheng’s intriguing, adept debut feature. High-rise towers are listing to the side, and residents are being evacuated. As Suburban Birds begins, a team of engineers is on-site to investigate the cause—ideally quickly, without disrupting the planned subway tunneling, so that this little part of China’s development boom can proceed. Make way for tomorrow! It’s left to Qiu to survey the restless earth around the foundations of the future, via a subtle structural gambit that marks his voice as one worth listening to.
As the four-man crew take measurements, knock off early, and indulge in the occasional after-work binge-drinking, low man on the totem pole Xiahao’s (Mason Lee) lack of motivation and affect in comparison to his workmates marks him out as the protagonist according to the dictates of arthouse logic.
