Oppam is not the kind of movie that you expect from Priyadarshan Mohanlal team. The movie is a thriller which tells us the story of a visually impaired Jayaraman trying to save the life of a girl from a psychopath killer while trying to prove himself innocent for a murder he had not committed. Even though he is blind he tracks the killer with his intelligence and with the help of his other heightened senses of smell, sound and touch. There are lot of secrets which slowly unfolds through the course of the film. After Drishyam, this is the Mohanlal movie I was waiting for. I really liked the performance of all the characters. But I was little disappointed with the role given to Renji Panicker. I expected more of him in the film. But Mohanlal played the role with such perfection, proving once again that he is one of the finest actors of our country. This movie is a must watch.

Heard good things about the movie & so i went to check it out myself and i was not disappointed.
The film is written & directed by veteran director Priyadarshan and is a thriller where lead role is played by Mohanlal. The story revolves around murder of a retired judge, a blind man (Mohanlal) & its aftermath.
If you have seen the trailer & thought it was lame just wait after you see this movie, cause then you will understand that it was made so intentionally. The movie outright surprises with good camera work, Songs, sory progression ... the works, you name it & its there.
Its a strong comeback by the director after a couple of lemons. Mohanlal succeeds in making the audience feel the pain & struggle he is in & the director succeeds in making you stay at the edge of your seat.
A great movie & no doubt one of the best movies of the year !!!!

Wonderful acting by mohanlal as an blind man, it was good to see that he is not giving eye contact , but concentrating to hearing while he converse with others, and respond to circumstances, a good screenplay is seen in the movie, where the culprit is known earlier itself, but how it is proved is a good challenge, the first two songs were good, with a nice BGM while at the time of suspense moves, the challenging moves between hero and the villain, was a good show, over all good acting by mohanlal, samuthrakani, child artist and others too .well directed by priyadarshan, worth watching this movie on how a blind person can prove he is innocent.

Well for a non-malayalee guy like me watching a Malayalam movie was a different experience and I experienced it fully!!!
Oppam!!! man what a masterpiece ! I have always heard of Malayalam films being more realistic and I now I have believe that what I heard was true.
This film was totally realistic. I am more of a Hollywood guy. Bollywood I don't like that industry they are not making good movies (though some are good). And I also watch Tamil and Telugu Movies usually sometimes in Hindi Dubbed and sometimes in there original version (depends upon my excitement).
And some of them are creative and innovative and some are just a popcorn entertainment's. But this Malayalam movie was 100% realistic without much any waste of time and also without showing unrealistic superman type action they made the movie more grounded.
Acting wise- Superb Action wise- Well done Thriller wise- Exceptional work !
Seriously I have become a much of an appraiser of Malayalam Cinema after watching this phenomenal movie.

It's a neat crime thriller from a great director whose last few films were below average. Mohanlal is the key in this film. We could see his acting skills through out the film. Even his eyebrows can do magical acting. 2 out of 3 songs are crafted really well. Brace yourself for some serious goosebumps.
Samuthirakani, Chemban Vinod Jose, Aju Varghese and Mamukkoya did their roles really well. The gunshots and CGI was perfect. You don't wanna be a Mohanlal fan to enjoy the film. The storytelling is gripping and executed with finesse. Overall it's the best crime thriller of the year till now without a doubt.

No spoilers ahead A very engaging movie from the most loved duo in malayalam film industry....Acting by Mohanlal is great..Good second half....but watching second half felt like watching movies like Cape Fear and Visaranai.....some of the scenes are inspired from these movies...The story is loosely similar to the story of Cape fear but has its novelty....Watch it for the mass kalari scene of lalettan ...especially for fans....good interval block...engaging camera work and awesome bgm...don't watch with ' drishyam' expectation....family emotions have been dealt well in the movie...Mamookoya's humour is spot on..

Last day i went to watch this movie after i heard a lot of hype rating the movie as exceptional. I have to say that it is a good movie but don't expect too much from it. The climax was somewhat predictable but the movie has its moments.
Special praise for the cinematography and the suspense in some scenes. I am actually pleased to tell that the fight scenes where actually very good. It took me back to the time when mohanlal was at the height of his career. My personal opinion is that the 3 songs in the first half of the movie was a bit of an overdo. But things get better during the second half.
Mohanlal has done some serious acting and all the other characters are beautifully casted. if not for some things i would have given it a 10 rating. I think that this movie can be considered a valuable addition to the long list of mohanlal movies and special congrats to the team behind it. Best of luck!!

This film came out about the same time as Pulimurugan. I believe this movie was effected by it too. Pulimurugan was carried to a success by lal fans and the normal family audience who went into watch that film was disappointed. I am afraid that's what happened here as those normal audiences were doubtful from their experiences with pulimurugan and opt to skip this good movie.

Don't expect 'Drishyam' style movie. Oppam looks like a low budget movie. A 10-minutes long story stretched and tell in 2.30 hrs time. There is no flow in story telling and leaving doubts here and there. In 'Drishyam' protagonist has applied lot of tricks to fool the police. That was the suspense element of the movie, even though the murderer was known in first half itself. In 'Oppam', there is no tricks played by protagonist against the murderer. He is trying to escape from the murderer, but the latter was following. Editing is pathetic. In acting side Mohanlal is okay, but Why sometimes he is holding his top buttons during dialogue delivery?
Plus points- Songs only (title song & 'minungum..'). Minus points- No suspense element, Poor Editing, Weak story, BGM is sometimes horrible.
My rating 3/10.

Synopsis – Oppam revolves around Jayaraman who is blind by birth but with a sharp sense of smell, sound & touch and engages himself to tackle a phyco killer which he forced to do so.
For those who cherished watching movies by evergreen combo Priyadarsan & Mohanlal, Oppam is yet another addition to their must watch list undoubtedly. Oppam is such an engaging thriller were in the script is flavored with Priyadarshan's own comic elements here and there. Its refreshing to see the ace director experimenting with the all new way of story narration with the help of completely different plot. Oppam is in tune with contemporary film. The script was flawless and showed quality content throughout. Oppam marked as director Priyadarshan's epic come back with such a family thriller. As the movie kick stared it dragged me to the edge of the seat and my eyes were glued on to the screen till the end :).
The heart, soul & spine of Oppam is nothing else than Priyadarshan's brilliant direction & lalettan's effortless portrayal of lead character. Mohanlal was fabulous in essaying the role of Jayaraman. His tremendous effort on facial detailing of all other senses are incredibly captured by the director. A scene where Jayaraman senses the presence of murderer inside the lift stands out. Samudrakani portrayed his role perfectly. Vimala Raman, Innocent, Kaviyur Ponnamma and all other known and unknown faced did well in the movie. Special mention to Meenakshi Kutty .. :)
If you ask me three positive points about the movie, the third point after direction & acting would be its Cinematography. N K Ekambaram has nailed in terms of delivering all frames with perfect color balance & engaging camera movement throughout. And he managed to deliver Priyan's own frames in most of the scenes (Minnaminunge song is the perfect example). The editing department deserves applauds. Songs of 4 Music band are ear soothing and thanks to Ron for terrific / impact-full back ground score.
Bottom Line –
Priyadarshan continues to write history along with lalettan even with some box office failures in the past. Oppam is such a refreshing crime thriller which is a must watch for Mohanlal's exceptional performance.

Oppam is an above average suspense thriller with a tight screen play, wonderful cinematography and the ever wonder Mohanlal aka our Lalettan. The film marks the return of one of the most successful pair in Malayalam film industry , Mohanlal and Priyadarshan. Though they are known for their comedy films through out , this time they return with a thriller movie. The duos previous attempt on horror thriller Geethanjali, was a big let down, but that is not the case with Oppam. The story is good, suspense holds attention and the flow is occasionally fast ( there are places where the film get stretched more than needed) . Songs are good and apt to the film , the visuals are stunning , especially in songs . Background score is a bit loud to the level of irritating , should have damped it a bit. Mohanlal proves he has not yet lost his touch , supporting cast also does the job well. Apart from suspense there is a bit of everything in the film , humor, action ( if you are a Lalettan fan, there is a moment where you will whistle out loud ) and emotion. All in all it is a complete Onam package.

As the tag-line says, "Someone's after me" and I guess, the audiences are the one who's running after this well crafted, edge of the seat thriller. The malayali audience are celebrating the return of Lal- Priyan combo, the duo which created some of the most memorable movies in Malayalam like Chithram, Kilukkam, Chandralekha, Thalavattom, Vellanakalude Naadu, Thenmavin Kombath etc. The recent flicks of this duo was not so impressive and audience was eagerly waiting for a good film from them and I think that's what inspired Priyadarshan to write screenplay for this movie by himself. His recent films were somewhat like the amateur siblings of his own previous films. But this movie is a fresh piece of work, with some new experiments by the director who was always praised for awesome visuals in his movies. This movie has all the elements to impress the family audience and the fans alike.
Oppam is the cat and mouse chase between Jayaraman, a blind lift operator and a serial killer. This movie is a one man show of 'The Complete Actor' who just elevated the quality of the movie with his unparallel acting skills. He once again proved that he is the king of the Kerala Box Office.
The technical side of the movie was also impressive. The cinematography by Ekambharam and BGM by Ron Yohaan was stunning. The cuts were perfect. Overall, the film is the perfect visual treat for this festive season.

Firstly, I stopped watching Malayalam movies ever since Priyadarshan stopped making movies ages ago, simply cos I've never seen the art, brilliance and execution of movies such as Kilukkam, Midhunam, Vandanam, Akkare Akkare Akkare, Nadodikaattu etc.., among the many made by Priyadarshan. I was thoroughly disappointed as when his movies stopped, the Malayalam movie industry started making poor movies, not even worthy of a free watch, let alone paying for it. When Oppam came out, I only checked who directed the movie and on knowing that it was directed by Priyadarshan, decided to watch it at any cost. As usual, it never disappointed me, NOT A SINGLE BIT. If you're an avid follower of his movies, you would know that the music he chooses in his movies, the background score, the locations, the story, camera work etc.., will remain in your heart, mind and thoughts forever. This movie does just that again; great story, thrilling, great camera work, and brilliant music and as usual, directed impeccably well! Mohanlal and the remaining crew performed brilliantly too. Samuthirakani performed like he lived every moment. I sure do hope that we see more movies of Priyadarshan before he decides to retire cos I'm not convinced to watch anything made by others, considering the standards these days.

Oppam is yet another addition to the must-watch list of movies, which proves the caliber of the actor Mohanlal. Mohanlal's performance as a visually impaired person is absolutely amazing. All actors did justice to their roles. Nice story, good visuals, good music, a pinch of suspense and here you have a good recipe. Not in the league of old Lal-Priyan movies, but definitely worth watching. Also worth mentioning is M.G.Sreekumar, seems like he's aging fine like good old' wine. The song 'Minungum Minnaminuge' stirs all kinds of emotions in me personally, especially being away from family for years. Kudos to M.G, Shreya, 4Musics and B.K. Harinarayanan.

Oppam is a mediocre thriller film which might seem better compared to the other recent efforts from Priyadarshan. The film has nothing new to offer because of a predictable script and it's certainly not one of the best roles in Mohanlal's career. The film has a first half which has an uneven tone because of forced cliché-filled-family-scenes and other scenes which sets the thriller story. Because of some lousy writing and casting choices in the first half of the film, I expected the second half to be similar but it wasn't. Second half of the film saves the day with some good thrilling moments and great camera work. The final scenes had some "Shining" references which I enjoyed and the songs were quite good. Good acing by the child artist and she had good chemistry with Mohanlal. This is not a must watch film by any means so I rate this one five out of ten stars.
