Good thriller. Definitely worth to watch!

Story is the heart of movie. A good movie must have a good story. Otherwise nothing will work. And in this context 'Dhaka Attack' passed easily with good marks. I'm not telling the story is unique or brilliant. But it is good and interesting.

'Serial Killer' kinda thing is very common in the movies nowadays. We've seen a lot from Hollywood, Bollywood, Korean and even from south Indian movie industry. But this is totally new genre for a Bangladeshi movie.

Almost everything in this movie worked perfectly except the VFX (!?) and lead actress Mahiya Mahi! VFX should have been better. Considering the low budget, we may forgive the VFX, but what about Mahiya Mahi? In every sense of the word, she was horrible! She couldn't portrait her character. Her over- acting, way of talking, expression everything was disappointing.

Arefin Shuvo and ABM Sumon did their best and acted very well. Shatabdi Wadud was phenomenal as always. Special thanks to Taskin Rahman for his outstanding performance and screen appearance as the villain. Music was good with appropriate BGM. Action sequences and cinematography were also very good (again the VFX is the only week point here).

Overall, it's a good movie. Considering Bangladeshi industry it's a very good movie. Probably the best thriller movie ever made in Bangladesh.

Definitely worth to watch!

Would have been a decent thriller, but...

In Bangladesh movie industry thriller is a very very rare genre. But people love to watch action packed thriller. This movie had promises to be a perfect cop thriller, but then come the traditional romantic melodrama! The 'mighty' Mahia mahi! Dear director, please ask yourself, why there will be a glamour queen for every handsome cop in Bangladeshi films? Why she have to be so dumb, stubborn and gawky? Why she have to express her love in the extreme moment of bomb disposal? Are you serious! There was no need of dancing and singing in beautiful natural scenario. These was just unnecessary and ridiculous.

The story has a good pace and climax. The character of ashfak was portrayed well. Shatabdi wadud and Arifin shuvo was fabulous. But ace of spade was the villain Taskeen. What a chilling look and eyes!

Overall it was a good movie but would have been much better. I hope Dipankar Dipan (The director) will make a real thriller some day! I will advice people to watch the movie to feel the change!

Dhaka attack (2017) - First Police Crime-Thriller Film in Bangladesh

Really a superb- action-thriller film- specially on the context of Bangladesh. Intelligent plot, the overall execution and cinematography is also brilliant, music is heart-touching and catchy to ear.

In the acting section- protagonist Arefin Shuvoo and ABM Sumon- both heroes looked cool and charismatic as as detective officer and special force commander respectively. Other male characters- including Shatabdi Wadud, Shipon etc also did their best in their roles. But for the female characters- their character formation and acting was somehow just lame- specially Mahiya Mahi as crime journalist- she looked gorgeous (sometimes with excessive make-up!) but both her character and acting seemed a bit disappointing! If female heroines even in such male-dominated crime- thriller film can be presented as side-kicks or helping hands, it would be a lot more exciting I think! Ad placement also seemed tasteless. If such few inconsistencies here and there could be excluded, it would have become an almost-perfect film actually!

Yet- it's a marvelous film- in the second half you have to feel the real thrill- because the final adventuresome exploration begins and the new villain Taskeen Rahman comes to spotlight! In his debut film, he's done really awesome job as a cold-blooded, brutal serial killer. His background is also explored quite thoroughly in this film. So breaking the stereotype of typical Bengali cinema and bringing up a stylish anti-protagonist- it's just awesome and brilliant! And Taskeen Rahman deserves to get a best villain award!

My overall rating- 8/10

So this film is just ground-breaking by introducing stylish police- crime-action in Bangladeshi film industry. It's also getting super- duper hit in box office breaking some records- that also sounds cool and very promising. Conscious audience're rushing to movie theaters and wholeheartedly appreciating films, doing some constructive criticism- that's all we want! Kudos to debuted director Dipankar Dipan, story writer Sunny Sanwar and the whole team for their strenuous effort to bring up such a hi-fi movie and to value the high expectation of awaiting audience- hoping better for the future! And more and more promising directors are coming with their conceptual films, sounds like a golden era..so all the best, go ahead Bangla movie! :)

Messages from Dhaka Attack

I don't want to talk about the cinematography, making, sound, script, dialogue, casting, screen playing post-production activities because it should come from another directors or film maker.

But as a general audience:

There r some messages for different kind of audience.

1. For school boys: They can dream for being a SWAT member.

2. To Aristocratic Gurdian: Why and how a growing boy can be derailed in spite of having all the facilities but only family crisis. (Taskin)

3. To BCS dreamer: In BCS viva, its a very common question that why BCS police is ur first choice?

How can a chemist play his role in police department?

How a genetic engineer can contribute to Police?

What r the importance of ICT specialist in this sector?

Why we solve analogy?

4. To the traditional directors and Producers:

Film should be based on our history, independence, mythology, sports, army, peace mission, science fiction, Navy, air force and so on.

Film should be based on Bengali nationalism where we can find the reflection of patriotism and victory of humanity.

Best Action Movie of Bangladesh

It debuted as Dipankar Dipon as a film director. This movie made the action films of Bangladesh on another level. "Dhaka Attack" delivers what Bangladesh's film audience have been craving for far too long.

At first, there was a attack on a chemical factory and they steal some chemical. After that some dead body were found with some alphabets written on the body. It tells what is going to happen in the city.

If we talk about actors, Arifin Shuvu and ABM Sumon have done a great job in the movie. And the rest of the actors were good. Especially Taskeen Rahman. In my opinion, he is the next generation villain role of Bangladesh.

Overhyped

The script was clearly written by someone in secondary school during his tiffin break. The story was simple and mostly unbelievable

-Mahiya Mahi clearly doesn't know that you have to wear a urna when you wear salwar kameez. -There was way too much Banglish. It felt as if I was watching an English movie with occassional Bangla words thrown in. Even old movies from the Serious Kanchan/Jashim era were better in this particular area. -No one knows that headshots can kill people instantly or that bomb remotes can be shot.
  • The villian tried to mimic Shahrukh Khan from Don
  • There was an item song!

We really need to stop copying Bollywood. We are Bangladeshis and have our own identity.

Dhaka Attack - A massive attack on the abductors of Bangladeshi film

I was planning to watch the movie Dhaka Attack on its opening show even before the date of its official release. I tried Star Cineplex of Basundhara City and Jamuna Blockbuster for continuously three days in a row to buy a ticket and finally got one of the matinée show of 18th October at Star Cineplex. In theater, I saw the long queue of cine-lovers to collect tickets for the next days in advance.

What is good in the movie? I think, it might be easier to find out what is not too good in it, as they are fewer in number.

1. The heroine – Mahiya Mahi is the top-seed actress in the mainstream film industry of Bangladesh. I think that was the point of her casting in this movie, otherwise, the character demanded a woman with more improved acting-line. The makers did not want to portray a heroine for entertainment only, as they have developed the character with special care. Unfortunately, Mahi failed to honor their effort, as she could show neither good expressions nor acting skill at all.

2. The hero – Arifin Shuvo was good, however, he could be better. I think the director had no other option in hand as our total industry has failed to produce good heroes (in all sense) in the last couple of decades. From that point of view, Shuvo was a better choice, but not the best pick. Nevertheless, I must admit, he tried his level best to give the utmost effort in the movie. I hope, this movie is going to be a fresh start towards his good works to reach his 'personal' signature performance.

3. Dubbing – a good movie should be good in all sense. A fantastic sound design with the most supportive and appropriate background score could have a better dubbing overall. In this film, we got the physical appearance of Afzal Hossain, but did not get his voice dubbing!

4. BIG man little SHOW – Syed Hasan Imam, Alamgir and Afzal Hossain – three heavyweight actors were cast in the movie for actually nothing! First two appeared in two scenes in the beginning of the movie while the third was seen in a couple of scenes more. Nevertheless, according to their face value and acting skills, they deserved some more attention. However, the director had no scope to portray them all through; in that case, some other good actors with fewer star-value should act their characters.

Well, more or less, these are the findings, which could be even better. I know, a fastidious critic can find more dirty linen to wash, but I do not think our film is passing through positive airflow to be scurrilous in critic. Let's talk about the positive things.

1. The hero – I think now the readers started swearing me, why I am keeping the hero in the positive list while in just before chapter I told I am not satisfied with his appearance. It is because; I think, what effort he put in it cannot be given by the other actors his alternative. The character demanded a Rambo, at least a Shah Rukh Khan; he tried to be Arifin Shuvo, not imitating a worthless Shakib Khan. That is good about the movie – a good practice is on the go – to find out the utmost 'self' from a trend-follower generation to become trendsetters.

2. ABM Sumon – What an acting man, what a performance. Believe me, I became a huge fan of your 'professional attitude' in this film. The character of Ashfaq was the toughest one I think, as it was always luring the actor for over-acting. But Sumon escaped from the bait completely, just carried out his 'professional' duties all through the movie, just like a SWAT commander should be doing. It goes to Shatabdi Wadud also. He is the ultimate model of 'Man at Work' in the movie.

3. Taskeen Rahman – OMG! Who the hell is this goddamn Villain? Where from you collected this masterpiece? I never thought of this kind of acting, expression, and attitude adaptable in our film. Mind-blowing… if I write this whole story on him, still it is not enough for him. He is the ultimate charm of the movie.

4. Supporting roles – Nawshaba did a nice job in her short appearance. Besides, all the junior artists in supportive roles performed under the best care. Appreciation must be given to them, but credit goes to the director, I think.

5. Music – Background score and sound effects are fantastic and most supportive, the songs are also adequate. They are entertaining but not pressure releasing. They don't hamper the free-flow of the high-speed story.

6. Action and VFX – all the action scenes were up to the mark. VFX is good also. The bomb-blast scenes were realistic.

7. Cinematography – DOP did a praiseworthy job. Photography was really good, framing was technically rich, so the color developing and video post.

8. Direction – Director is such a person who is never seen in his/her picture but felt all through. Dipankar Dipon, my 'deshi Bhai' has passed with distinction – nothing more to say.

9. Story & Screenplay – I wrote this point at the end, intentionally. Because I think, Sunny Sanwar should get a special attention for presenting such an amazing and unique story. Action movies in our reality come with a copy-paste story from a Hollywood, Bollywood or even a Tamil movie. This time we experienced a real action movie with not a single 'copied' scene! I thank you for sharing your story in that very moment it's needed insanely.

I think Dhaka Attack has already earned its investment back. I wish, very soon it will start winning profit from the box office.

A great thriller with the worst VFX

One word, awesome! The story was as good as any great thriller. Arefin and Sumon's acting was really great. But wait for it...Taskeen Rahman outperformed them all. You gotta hate him so much yet you have to love him just for how well he did.

Honestly, if it was for just the local eyes, i would have given it an 8 out of 10 rating. That being said, the VFX in this movie doesn't do itself one bit of justice. The acting of the high ranked officers along with the actress herself was a a let down as well.

Sound effect and sound tracks both were great. However, the shooting in the movie could be a lot better. It looked like staged and the villains died lamely.

Overall, if you are Bangladeshi, you must watch this.

If you are a movie enthusiast from elsewhere, don't expect too much. But you may fall in love with the super villain

A Good action-thriller(comparing with movies around the globe)! Best in Bengali movie history!!!

Story: Good story. Not extraordinary but good enough. At some point it was very predictable but for most of the time it was thrilling. 22/30 for the story.

BGM: Although some background sound was collected(For 10 to 15 minutes I assume ) from 'Inception', it was good overall. I do have to mention one thing, I didn't find the collected sounds well executed. Adding to this, I also must say that I was pleased with their own original soundtracks. They were really good in creating the tension that you usually get while watching thrillers. The song 'Tikatolir More' was good as it added some plot but other songs were completely unnecessary. 'Tup Tap' song depicted that the lead male character and female character is building up some romantic interest for each other while he was driving her home. This whole thing could have been shown in some other way and the song was not needed there. The timing of 'Poth je dake' was good when it was played but it could have been better in its materials. I personally felt that it failed to create the intended emotion in the audience for which it was there. Moreover, enough emotion was already created by the story itself. So it could have been skipped altogether. 15/20 for BGM and songs.

Acting: Taskeen bhai was just awesome. Some villain Bengali movie industry hasn't seen before. His appearance, acting, dialogue-delivery everything was just perfect... He has an influence of the 'Greatest Hollywood villain' The Joker... and I liked it. 9/10 for him.

Arefin Shuvo and ABM Sumon was really good at their roles of AC Abid and SWAT leader Ashfaq respectively. 8/10 for both...

Nawshaba 7/10 Mahi 6.5/10 Wadud shaheb 7.5/10

Other supporting characters were good. That fatty cameraman of Chaity and 'Double' officer with Abid was funny. The gangsters were good too, I liked that 'Chatgaiya(from Chittagang)' stolen-car dealer. The police officer(can't recall the character name) at training in Malaysia was good too along with other Malay officers. He seemed like a real officer, was he? Anyway, my overall rating for the acting performances here is 15/20

Filming: I really liked the way camera shifted from one scene to another... its something new in Bengali film which is well executed in 'Dhaka Attack'. The way they shot inside a bomb, liked it. Camera angles were also good. 9/10

Editing: VFX was not up to the mark.. but okay(chole) considering the industry's budget constraint. 7/10

Direction: 8/10 for overall Direction. Best wishes for Dipankar Dipon sir and his upcoming projects.

Total: 76/100

(This is a slightly biased review. More accurate rating of this film can be somewhere around 65/100. The reason I'm being a bit generous is because this film has brought some good stuffs into the action & thriller genre of Bangladeshi films that was not there before. And if I have to compare it with other action entries from Bangladesh, this one's a gem!)

Whatever it is, you should watch it to feel the change in Bangladeshi films. Its changing...

same old cliché in a new bottle

Another Bangladeshi overrated cliché commercial film. Poor cliché characters with a poor script. The story has no exploration, no depth. Some dialogues are very common. One can easily find many similarities with many other films. The villain is better than other characters, but he also has some poorly copied signs from the great Joker.

Only the drone shots were enjoyable. Scriptwriter/s, director should learn about the difference between a proper story or script and a single concept.

The movie has a nicely written script along with an excellent direction. the story was totally excellent. from the beginning to end, it was totally good. Specially Arifin Shubho was too good. Don't waste your money/ time watch Hollywood movie instead.

This movie is not good at all. Just over hyped. Mahiya Mahi's character is totally unwanted movie didn't need this character. It could be more better without this (Journalist) character. Arfin Shuvo needs to improve his acting. When he's disposing the bomb I could not see seriousness in his face. He was Kinda smiling. You guys should spend more time and more research before writing a script. You may watch other script writers/ directors works and try to keep balance in whole movie. Baladeshi script writers can't really keep up the story at the begining- end in a movie and this is the most important thing. And specially think about the ending of a movie. The crowds were not expecting this kind of unvarnished ending in this movie. At last I didn't understand what is the intention of this movie. Thanks,
