The new magicians lack depth... their skills and personalities aren't well-established, so it's hard to care. The original Horsemen (all five now) are still charismatic, but their roles feel sidelined in favor of underdeveloped newcomers.
The final heist is visually impressive but lacks the satisfying payoff of the first two films. The twists feel forced, and the revenge-driven plot drags down the fun.
That said, it's not a bad movie - just a missed opportunity. If you loved the first two, you'll find enough spectacle to enjoy, but don't expect the same magic.
6/10: A decent weekend watch, but nothing more.
Practically, a new set of magicians uses the image of the former Now You See Me leads, and try to recapture their "Robin Hood"-esque quest. Then it trickles down to a ridiculous plot about a rich billionaire heiress who has a secret she wants to destroy. With the help of the old gang, the new kids on the block will use the film's brand of"Camera Illusion" because being a Magician in this film is not gonna happen - to turn the world around and help make things right.
I hated it the minute my friends said this is the one we need to watch. I just know nothing in this is gonna work at all. It never made sense for me. WHY is she faulted for the cascading incidents that resulted to her mother's death when she was a child? Or all these grandstanding and moralizing. Or how is something popular yet no one really knows him eye to eye or the worst thing - which is "camera illusion" magic. The film really wants you to let go of every little suspension of disbelief you could give. Even the biggest plot twist of the film is just plain ridiculous stupidity. AND IT'S NOT even witty at that.
The fact that towards the end, the best thing I could feel about this film is that it is unrelentingly stupid. It acts smart and it thinks as if it comments on something relevant, but it knows it is stupid and nonsensical. It is proudly bottom of the barrel and a million or so, would still come because sometimes it is fun to be brain dead. Dead dead, we are mortal after all.
That 2.5 film is because it never let me feel like something made sense. It pushes itself to puzzle me and make me feel like that money I spent was not worth it. It was the greatest horror Hollywood made this year and I am still having my nightmares!
This type of heist film is better when we have a small team of 4 doing a mission impossible / hustle / leverage type double movie-length episode.
I know Atlas by name, the other 9 I have no idea what there names were.
Less of the CGI camera tricks. More focus on actual real world tricks and using them to solve crime.
And keep the budget low. We don't need expensive race cars (with an ending that is resolved off screen, when the character just turns up. No explanation given). No home alone optical illusion museum to set things in. It was just stupid.
Seriously too much money was spent on the sets, when a tighter more-focused script was what is needed.
It's watchable and at least they vanished a silk in a TT. They explained how the diamond was switched out. As stupid as that was (same as the car stealing scene). Security around a billion pound diamond was laughable. Even more so when the twist at the end is revealed and you realise how pointless the rest of the movie was.
The whole movie is around 10 people bickering. It is exhausting to watch and listen to. This movie is definitely for a younger generation than the last as this sort of constant barrage of verbal intercourse reminds me more of college kids bantering than anything else.
So, regardless of that its okay. Nice to see the band back together. Nothing going to set the world alight here just okay.
We do end up with what feels like the 10 horsemen but feel free to disagree.
The cast is the best thing with them all reunited. I love Jesse Eisenberg so I enjoy seeing him again. Newcomers like Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa and Ariana Greenblatt are all great charismatic new characters too. Rosamund Pike as the villain is cool just cause it's her anyway.
They have the song abracadabra in this by Lady Gaga so that's another cool thing!
Great to see them back on screen again regardless of it being more of the same stuff with less complexity.

Charlie: How did you... find us?
J. Daniel Atlas: I don't know, took me about... 30 seconds And if it was this easy for me to find you, how hard would it be for the police?
June: Whoa, hold on, the police?
J. Daniel Atlas: Yeah, the police.
Bosco: Why would the police be looking for us?
J. Daniel Atlas: Uh, I don't know, what about that little heist you just pulled? Or... the fact that you're squatting in this place, so that your electricity comes from the circuit box in the corner, I don't know, could be anything, am I right, Bozo?
Bosco: [chuckles] Bosco. Bosco Leroy.
J. Daniel Atlas: [chuckles] Oh yes that's right, Bosco Leroy. What, did you type "fictional magician name" into ChatGPT?
Bosco: No, that's actually my real name, Atlas. What'd your mom have sex with a map?
