“Joy Hanu Man” is Assamese cinema’s first genuine foray into superhero/vigilante justice genre. Joy (Siddharth Boro), a simple youth studying in college and known for his physical prowess is sucked into a sinister conflict involving gangsters, corrupt politicians and media when his innocent friend is wrongly accused of rape and murdering a girl and is killed in an encounter. Joy dresses up as Hanu Man, the great Monkey God who helped Rama save Sita from Ravana, as he goes after the perpetrators.
One of the major reasons that makes Himanshu Prasad Das one of the most efficient proponents of incorporating comedy in his stories is how well he is able to write and organically blend it into his otherwise serious and dark narratives and treatments. He proved this before in the writing of “Bulu Film” where every character was under extreme duress and yet was darkly funny throughout.
