In today’s TV news roundup, AMC released a trailer for “The Walking Dead,” and HBO announced a premiere date for Nick Bilton’s “Fake Famous” documentary.

“Fake Famous” will debut on HBO and HBO Max on Feb. 2. The documentary film, by first-time director and technology journalist Nick Bilton, follows three small-time influencers as they attempt to grow their followings and explores what it means to be famous in the digital age. Watch a trailer below.

TruTV announced it will premiere the limited prank series “Double Cross with Blake Griffin” on March 19, with back-to-back episodes at 5:30 and 6 p.m. The final two episodes of the series, which stars the titular basketball player conspiring with people who too-often find themselves the victims of pranks getting their revenge, will air the following night, March 20, at the same times.

TruTV also announced that “Big Trick Energy,” a magic reality series, will premiere April 22 at 10:30 p.

The CW has ordered more magic ahead of the holidays. The smallest broadcast network has renewed the long-running Penn & Teller: Fool Us TV series for an eighth season.

Penn & Teller: Fool Us is hosted by Alyson Hannigan and showcases talented magicians performing their acts for comedic illusionists Penn Jillette and Teller. Those who manage to fool the pair win the opportunity to perform in Penn and Teller’s Las Vegas act. Magicians in season seven include Shawn Farquhar, Helen Coghlan, Ondrej Psenicka, Paul Gertner, Eric Leclerc, Dev Sherman, Conan Liu, Rubén Vilagrand, Caleb Wiles, D.K., Wes Iseli, and Alana.

In today’s TV news roundup, Showtime announced the release date for “Couples Therapy: The Covid Special,” and Starz cast German actor Alicia von Rittberg as young Queen Elizabeth in “Becoming Elizabeth.”

Casting

Starz cast Alicia von Rittberg as the lead in the network’s upcoming project, “Becoming Elizabeth.” The eight-episode series tells the story of Queen Elizabeth before she ascends to the throne, unraveling the drama and strategies involved in selecting a successor to King Henry VIII. Von Rittberg, a German actor, has previously acted in such projects as “Fury,” which screened at the London Film Festival; “Our Kind Traitor,” and the Netflix series “Charite.” She is represented by United Agents and Die Agenten in Germany.

Lovato will take the reins of the ceremony, airing live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 9/8c.

TruTV has given a 10-episode order to Big Trick Energy, a comedic unscripted illusionist stunt series featuring master magicians and daredevils Chris Ramsay, Eric Leclerc, Wes Barker and Alex Boyer.

In the series produced by Diga Studios, Ramsay, Leclerc, Barker and Boyer impress unsuspecting people on the street with their extreme stunts. You can watch a preview clip above.

Per the network, “from shock collar card tricks to mind bending one of their own cars in broad daylight, no stunt is off limits and no line is uncrossable to these self-proclaimed “Abracadipshits.” Viewers will also get a peek behind the curtain when they reveal how some of these unforgettable experiences were created.”
