Solo Leveling has taken the anime world by storm since its explosive debut, and now it is breaking into mainstream recognition in a major way. The Hollywood Creative Alliance has officially nominated the series for multiple honors at the 2025 Hca Astra TV Awards, including the highly coveted Best Anime Series category. What started as a beloved Korean web novel and manhwa has become a global cultural force. Now, with nominations not just for the show but for its standout voice cast, Solo Leveling is positioned as a new benchmark for anime adaptation success.

Shojo anime have some of the best romances. They typically feature two people falling in love over the course of the show. The best dynamics of these love stories are when the male lead character falls for the female protagonist first. No matter how it starts, these male characters become smitten with their love interests and never let their feelings waver.
Many types of these romances exist, but the best ones feature male protagonists who would do anything for the women and girls they love. The feelings they have for their love interests spark their confidence and help them want to be better people. Dragon Ball Daima is the newest addition to the Dragon Ball universe, and it hasn't missed its mark. It's a fun, light-hearted series that reintroduces the cast of Dragon Ball in an amazing light. While Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Gt, and Dragon Ball Super put action first and comedy second, Daima changes the formula to create a new series that feels fresher than ever.
The evil Demon King Gomah used the Dragon Balls to make Goku and the rest of the Z Fighters become kids again, leading to a hilarious adventure, great battles, and surprising transformations. As a series that puts fun first, it has a different tone than most of the Dragon Ball franchise, but there are still plenty of other anime series that share a lot in common with the latest entry into the Dragon Ball canon.

Jin “Jiji” Enjoji is a wild card, even within the context of the frenetic style of Dandadan. Although he is Okarun’s romantic rival, as well as Momo’s childhood bully, fans already love him for his goofy personality and bizarre mannerisms. Viewers are also looking forward to his romantic rivalry with Okarun as they both pine for Momo.

One of the appeals of anime comes from the creative and inventive characters, who often get to accomplish feats and perform actions far beyond anyone in the real world could do. From becoming a superhero complete with a superpower to defending the cosmos along with other Sailor Scouts, these characters get to live lives way beyond the confines of possibility. And with so many different worlds, stories and characters out there, some even have increased intellects, with their brainpower the stuff of legends and envy.
While these characters are blessed with genius-levels of intellect, they’re still human (mostly) and still make mistakes. From Tenya Iida rushing off to confront a known murderer on his own, to Sailor Mercury transforming in front of a villain and revealing her civilian identity, these brilliant characters have done some dumb things along the way, showcasing that they’re more than just their smarts.

One of the most entertaining parts of the Japanese anime industry is how far the characters will go to be the strongest, and sometimes, it feels downright unfair as the laws of power scaling and reality are shattered. While it's normal for shonen and some seinen leads to power up gradually with hard work and training arcs, certain characters jump right to the end with seriously overpowered abilities that render almost everything else moot.
Interestingly, it's both villains and heroes who wield these overpowered skills and powers, and it takes some clever writing to give heroes Op abilities without totally ruining the story's tension. In any case, when an anime character has an unfair power, it's a marvel to watch, but the plot must be handled just right so the story can continue when one character is cheating in battle. But when it works, these overpowered abilities become downright legendary...

But if you want something new, ReAwakening has that too: stick around and you’ll see the world premiere of the first two episodes from Solo Leveling’s second season. For an entire month, this will be the only way to see these episodes until their proper premiere in January. And now we’re hearing both the original Japanese and English versions will be screened, for the movie and the episode premieres. First impressions are always important in anime, but especially when it comes to villains. A villain's introduction has to perfectly capture who they are, make viewers invested in them, and establish why they should be feared. Shnen anime offer some of the best villains of all time, and many of their introductions are of similarly brilliant quality.
The first appearances of iconic shonen villains like Cell, Orochimaru, and All For One are unforgettable. The introductions of them and similar antagonists grip viewers and make them immediately invested. While there are plenty of outstanding debuts in more obscure anime, the most iconic introductions naturally come from more popular series.

Ideally, the heroes and villains in anime will stick around exactly long enough to have a proper character arc and do what they must do, then bow out of the story. If a character lingers and overstays their welcome, their character arc will stall out, and they might even end up feeling downright redundant. In other cases, a character may overstay their welcome simply because they're annoying to watch and a little of them goes a long way.
That is sometimes the case with certain anime villains, who stubbornly keep fighting the heroes even after they've lost their most important battle. Some villains keep coming back for more even when they no longer stand a chance against the heroes, or they're so unbearable, anime fans want them to go away after their first battle or conflict. Such is the case for ten particular anime antagonists who felt like they were...

Dramatic moments in anime are a staple of the genre, and heroic sacrifices are some of the most satisfying and heartbreaking things that a viewer can watch in a series. It is certainly a well-known trope within anime, and it remains a cornerstone of many shows for a very good reason: People love stories with tragedy and heroism.
Seeing beloved characters selflessly giving their lives for a larger purpose is something that will never get old, no matter how many times it happens across multiple shows. From bombastic send-offs to quiet, reserved declines, the anime genre includes a slew of characters sacrificing themselves for a greater purpose than their own lives, with a few falling into the category of the greatest.

Imagine a beautiful young girl surrounded by several handsome, eligible bachelors. It's a situation some anime fans may dream of, but it's also a genre of anime called "reverse harem." While harem anime typically surrounds an eligible bachelor with single ladies eager to date him, a reverse harem takes that situation and flips it on its head. A young bachelorette is now surrounded by handsome men who want to date her or, at the very least, can't stop flirting with her.
A reverse harem anime can be anything from a fantastical adventure to a mundane slice-of-life story. What remains the same is the way the cast is set up: one girl with only a handful of female friends but tons of men supporting her. These girls may not always be happy about the predicament they've found themselves in, but they adjust as best they can, leading to heart-pounding moments of tension,...

A romance between Izuku Midoirya and Ochaco Uraraka has been hinted at since the first season of My Hero Academia. However, nothing has ever come from their feelings - much to fans' chagrin. There have been some flirtatious scenes sprinkled throughout the show, but there is nothing of substance to their romance.
My Hero Academia is an action shonen anime. But the disappointment of not having a romance still stings. Romance isnt the focal point, but it does help to flesh out the characters. Teasing audiences with a potential character romance sets them up for expectations that are ultimately disappointing if theres no follow-through. Not allowing Deku to think about anything other than being a Hero does a disservice to his character and Urarakas continued feelings for him.

Izuku Midoriya (Deku) is seen as one of the greatest up-and-coming Heroes in a generation from My Hero Academia. He is extremely dedicated, and he bravely charges into any fight. However, some fans are realizing that many more characters from different anime show more heroism than Deku.
Deku has saved a lot of people and taken down some dangerous villains. Yet, he seems to be stuck in a selfish need to prove himself. Meanwhile, other anime characters have more altruistic actions. Throughout the story of My Hero Academia, Izuku "Deku" Midoriya underwent a variety of changes, most of them for the better. When he gained the One For All Quirk, he became All Might's worthy successor and gained the power to fight overpowered villains. Deku kept glowing up with new abilities, strategies, and friendships until his darkest transformation took place. And fans want to know exactly why Deku went down the path of dangerous vigilantism.
The consequences of the "Dark Deku" transformation were clear for all to see, such as Deku's drama with Class 1-a, whose members were heartbroken to see their classmate abandon them so quickly. In the My Hero Academia manga and anime, the "Dark Deku" persona is long gone, but it's still worth revisiting why it appeared in the first place, and what it meant for Deku, his classmates, and the eternal struggle against villainy.

My Hero Academia's most highly-regarded movie among overseas fans will soon become available internationally on Netflix. Fans will be able to watch the film, Heroes Rising, near the end of this month, with the movie releasing on Netflix starting Sept. 26.
This information was noted by @WhatsOnNetflix on X (formerly Twitter), a fan account for the streaming service. While the first film of the movie series, Two Heroes, has been available for streaming through Crunchyroll and Max, Heroes Rising has previously only been available for individual streaming purchase on Prime Video. Having first been released in theaters back in late 2019 in Japan, many feel this availability is more than overdue. However, with the recent conclusion of the My Hero Academia manga, now feels like a fitting time for fans to sit down and rewatch -- especially as the film's exciting climax was one of the original ideas for the manga's end.

Now, however, its latest crossover offers merchandise that's available for pre-order worldwide, and for one of the most heartfelt anime series to air in recent years.
Ranking of Kings, a coming-of-age fantasy anime based on the manga of the same name, premiered in 2021 and took its season by storm. Written by Taku Kishimoto and animated by Wit Studio, Ranking of Kings made headlines for its enormously sympathetic cast, unexpected fairy tale deconstructions and powerful tear-jerker moments. Its new collaboration with Sanrio may seem equally surprising at first glance, although the specific character matchups also feel oddly appropriate.

There are many shows and films about the highs and lows of being a superhero. Marvel and DC, of course, excel at these. Audiences look up to and try to emulate characters like Spider-Man and Superman because of their responsible use of power.
However, there are also many productions that examine what happens when people who aren't necessarily responsible get superpowers. They explore what it means to have powers and how they should be used. They also may examine the differences between individuals with and without powers. Some of these shows are dramas, and some are comedies, but all of them have something interesting to say about power and who gets to have it.

So far, the Kaiju No. 8 anime has introduced anime fans to a small but delightful cast of characters, starting with the 32-year-old half-other protagonist himself, Kafka Hibino. He is the Jakdf's strangest soldier yet, having minimal conventional power but overflowing with kaiju strength as the titular Kaiju No. 8. He's also in good company, with buddies like Reno Ichikawa and the talented Kikoru Shinomiya to back him up in battle.
Kikoru made a strong first impression as a hotheaded 16-year-old soldier with incredible strength and indomitable courage in battle when facing kaiju of all shapes and sizes. Right away, Kikoru set an incredibly high bar for the Jakdf's newest recruits, and Soshiro Hoshina thinks Kikoru is destined to reach the highest ranks before long. However, Kikoru's rapid success comes at a cost, since her father, Isao, puts her under serious pressure to succeed at all costs, with no room for mistakes.
