A Death In The Gunj is the only film of mine I absolutely loved upon first viewing. I saw the premiere during Mami in a packed Regal Cinema and I even forgot I was in it! Do you know Konkona initially offered me the part of another character Vikramjit?

If one didn’t know better, one would classify A Death In The Gunj as a whodunit. An Agatha Christie novel condensed into two hours of layered crisp crunchy but seemingly pointless conversations where families on a lazy vacation talk nonsense, play silly games evoking dead spirits (please!) while kids and pets run around in the large crumbling family home as the house-help grumbles about the sudden surge in domestic responsibilities.

Debutant director Neeraj Pathak put together a thriller that’s as much a homage to Alfred Hitchcock and Brian da Palma as our own Abbas-Mustan and Right Yaa Wrong still emerges original and strong.

An intricate jigsaw that always stays a step ahead of the audience, Right Yaaa Wrong makes a penetrating comment on how the country’s legal system can be subverted in a clever hand. It was reported that Triptii Dimri would no longer be a part of Aashiqui 3, starring Kartik Aaryan. Rumours began to spread on social media. People said Triptii was removed from the film because she had become “too exposed.” They said the role required the female lead to have “purity in demeanour.” It was also suggested that her bold image in Animal made it hard for her to fit in Aashiqui 3.

Director Anurag Basu denied these rumours. He spoke to Hindustan Times and said, “Image was not the reason. I am the last person to judge an actor based on the other characters they have played on screen. Aashiqui was not even the story anymore… I don’t know the source of these stories which came out.”
