Image
“Adolescence” was the big winner at the Gotham Television Awards, taking home three prizes, including breakthrough limited series, on Monday night.

Seth Rogen’s “The Studio” won breakthrough comedy series, and “The Pitt” won best drama.

The actors, directors, writers and producers feted at the ceremony, hosted at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street, emphasized the need to preserve and protect the entertainment industry amid geopolitical strife and AI fears.

“We love this business,” said Amy Sherman-Palladino, accepting the Creator Tribute alongside her husband Daniel Palladino. “God please help everybody. Let’s make it survive.”

“Let’s keep the arts alive!” shouted an enthusiastic Parker Posey. “Let’s turn this business into entertainment that everyone can love. That old people and young people and even babies laugh at!”

Posey, who was honored with the Legend Tribute, was introduced by her “White Lotus” co-stars Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell, who took...

Michelle Buteau Goes to Rome in ‘Survival of the Thickest’ Season 2 Trailer
Image
Michelle Buteau is back looking for messy love — this time in Rome and New York City — in the trailer for the second season of Survival of the Thickest, which dropped on Tuesday.

The second season of the eight-episode, half-hour comedy will debut March 27 on Netflix.

The Netflix rom-com centers on Mavis Beaumont (Buteau), who is newly single and looking for romance, with the scripted series inspired by Buteau’s book of the same name.

“Big girl, we ain’t just the moment. We the movement, honey,” Mavis exclaims when back in New York City at one point in in the trailer. The second season teaser has Mavis working hard to grow her brand and establish herself as a fashion stylist.

‘Beef’ Creator-Director Lee Sung Jin On How The Dark, Subversive Comedy Smashed Netflix Charts, Addressed A Mental Health Crisis And Connected With A Global Audience
Image
When Lee Sung Jin’s limited series Beef wrapped production back in 2022, the cast and crew were so happy with the profound camaraderie they’d developed that they’ve attempted to meet for dinner at least once a week ever since — some irony for a story originally borne out of anger and resentment.

Some time ago, pre-Beef, Lee found himself angrily tailing a driver in a road rage incident for nearly an hour. When he happened to tell Ravi Nandan, A24’s head of television, about this moment of madness, Nandan suggested Lee might expand on it. Was there more story to tell?

The complex and personal stories behind two strangers clashing with such vitriol eventually evolved into Lee’s limited series. At turns hilarious and disturbing, it follows the lives of Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) as they enter into an intense feud that is, in truth,...

Showtime’s satirical thriller “The Curse,” created by stars Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie and also starring Emma Stone, has exclusively shared its Emmy submission plans with Variety.

The three multi-hyphenates will have more than one chance at recognition across various categories for producing, acting, directing, writing and editing.

“The Curse” explores the tumultuous lives of a married couple (Fielder and Stone), who encounter a string of misfortunes while filming an HGTV series in New Mexico. Their challenges are compounded by a dubious “curse” and a manipulative producer (Safdie), which together threaten both the show and their relationship.

Stone, fresh off her second best actress Oscar win for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” is eyeing her first Emmy nod. She seeks recognition for her portrayal of Whitney, the co-host of the couple’s show about eco-friendly homes. Additionally, Stone is vying for a guest comedy actress nod for...

The rain stayed away from Santa Monica Beach on Sunday (February 25) as Past Lives was named best film and Celine Song best director at the 39th annual Spirit Awards.

Anyone hungry for more Beef?

After a packed nine days in which the Netflix dark comedy swept at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, the show was officially crowned best limited series at the 2023 Emmys on Monday night, with seven additional trophies between the Primetime and Creative Arts ceremonies, including best actor for Steven Yeun and best actress for Ali Wong as the feuding duo Danny and Amy, respectively. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

How was the rest of your night after the show ended?

We left the HBO party around 1:30 [a.m.], so it wasn’t too late.
