Several Bollywood actors including Anupam Kher, Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan among others have come out in support of the agitating students of FTII and openly opposed Gajendra Chauhan's appointment.

Was appointed as chief of Film and Television Institute of India, Chauhan's only notable achievement listed in the CV was his portrayal of Yudhisthir in B.R. Chopra's TV serial Mahabharat (1988). This sparked controversy of election committee's irresponsibility.
