Bill Maher recently issued a blunt response to California Governor Gavin Newsom‘s “trolling” of President Donald Trump on social media. On the August 22 episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, the host, 69, weighed in on Newsom’s unconventional approach to his X posts: mocking 79-year-old Trump’s all-caps messages and signature way of writing. “Gavin Newsom is now trolling Trump. I’ve never seen a Democrat do this,” Maher said on his late-night HBO show. “I think it’s very funny.” Starting in August, Newsom, 57, has gone viral online for his X updates declaring himself “America’S Favorite Governor,” giving over-the-top nicknames to Republican politicians and Fox News hosts,...

A day after his younger brother Erik was denied release on parole, Lyle Menendez was handed the same fate Friday evening, with California prison officials ruling he remains a risk to public safety. It was a minimal denial of three years.
“We find your remorse is genuine. In many ways, you look like you’ve been a model inmate. … But despite all those outward positives, we see [that] you still struggle with anti-social personality traits like deception, minimization, and rule-breaking that lie beneath that positive surface,” Parole Commissioner Julie Garland said,...

Like his brother, Erik, just 24 hours earlier, Lyle Menendez’s request for parole was denied Friday evening by a California Parole Board panel.
While the decision isn’t final yet — it won’t become official until the Cpb review process is finalized, including a separate hearing where the panel will explain their reasoning for denying parole — only rarely does the larger Parole Board overrule a rejection. And while California Gov. Gavin Newsom has the power to make the final call, he has already indicated he will likely follow whatever Cpb recommends.

The fate of Lyle and Erik Menendez ended up in the hands of California’s parole board. On Thursday, Erik received a denial in his bid for freedom. Read on to find out why.
Erik’s Parole Denial
According to Parade, Erik, age 54, appeared at his hearing via video from the “Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.” After many hours of questions from two parole commissioners, he ended up being denied release. Apparently, the board recalled early housebreaking activity in the ’80s and also violations of prison rules involving a phone.

A California parole board denied the release of Erik Menendez, who, along with his brother, Lyle Menendez, was arrested for killing their parents in 1989.
In December 2024, Los Angeles County Da George Gascón announced that, with new evidence that the Menendez brothers were molested, they may be eligible for resentencing.
Five months later, Erik and Lyle had been resentenced to 50 years by Judge Michael Jesic.
On August 21, the decision was delivered following a ten-hour virtual hearing involving statements from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Erik and nearly a dozen supportive Menendez relatives who are also labelled as victims of the brothers’ crime.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is doing everything he can to act presidential these days, even if it means following President Donald Trump's example. That includes the Democrat calling on a major network to cancel its popular late-night TV show.
Earlier this week, Newsom’s press office posted a mock-Trump style tweet blasting Greg Gutfeld, host of Gutfeld! on Fox News. The California governor claimed Gutfeld uses a laugh track and urged Fox to dump the late-night host as soon as possible.

Erik Menendez, the younger of the two Beverly Hills brothers who infamously gunned down their parents in 1989 after years of alleged sexual abuse, was denied parole at a highly anticipated hearing Thursday.
The three-year denial, while minimal, dashed many supporters’ hopes that Erik, 54, might be home with his family in time for the holidays. It also dampened expectations ahead of the separate parole board hearing for Erik’s older brother and co-defendant, Lyle Menendez, 57, set for Friday.

After more than three decades behind bars for the 1989 murder of their parents, this week Erik and Lyle Menendez are finally standing before a California parole board in separate, virtual hearings that — after a series of revelations, an online rally and multiple TV series based on their cases — could chart a path toward their release.
Erik Menendez, now 54, is appearing via video link from Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego. He will be facing a two- to three-person panel of parole commissioners and will be presenting his case for release under the resentenced term of 50 years to life — which in July was reduced down from his original without-parole sentence in 1996.
His defense, led by frequent Hollywood attorney Mark Geragos, is emphasizing Erik’s years of rehabilitation and remorse and his big contributions to prison programming, including support initiatives for elderly inmates. Family members, correctional staff and even formerly...

Democrats are obviously scrambling when it comes to how to push back against Donald Trump. To be fair, Trump has stomped on any previous notion of a chessboard. It’s harder to fight back against a guy who totally ignores any and all rules of engagement. But still, the Democrats have done poorly showing any sort of major counter strategy to Trump’s war path. And when we do get any resistance, it’s #resistance, not substantial thwarting of power.

Timing is everything in politics and the law, and Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman certainly is using it to his presumed advantage today when it comes to the Menendez brothers and their potential parole.
“The Menendez brothers have never fully accepted responsibility for the horrific murders of their parents, instead continuing to promote a false narrative of self-defense that was rejected by the jury decades ago,” Hochman said today, less than 24 hours before Erik Menendez’s parole hearing is scheduled to start and around 48 hours ahead of Lyle Menendez’s hearing.
To that end, Erik Menendez’s virtual parole hearing will kick off around 8:30 am Pt on August 21 and is anticipated to last anywhere up to three hours. His brother will follow a similar schedule on Friday. While it might take days or weeks, a written decision from the parole board could come as early as the conclusion of the individual hearings.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s current Maga-baiting social media strategy has ensnared Kid Rock in its hysterical net.
Recently, Newsom’s press office account has taken to using an all-caps trolling approach, aping Donald Trump’s posting style on Truth Social. Over the weekend, it posted a tweet featuring a clearly AI-generated image of right-wing rocker and hardcore Trump fan Kid Rock expressing his support for the governor.
Newsom’s tweet, which features an image of Kid Rock dressed as Uncle Sam with the caption, “Kid Rock Wants You to Support Gavin Newsom,” and a post accepting the endorsement from Newsom’s personal account, was apparently a bridge too far for Rock.
In a post responding to the troll, Kid Rock retweeted the image with a caption of his own: “The only support Gavin Newscum will ever get out of me is from Deez Nutz,” pulling out one of Donald...

Janeshia Adams-Ginyard, a Trump-supporting actress who voiced the Black, female Eric Cartman defends South Park’s biting satire targeting President Donald Trump. South Park season 27's premiere, “Sermon on the ’Mount,” mocks the Trump administration while skewering issues like immigration and Kristi Noem’s dog-shooting controversy.
In a TMZ interview, Janeshia Adams-Ginyard praised South Park’s equal-opportunity humor, noting it targets everyone. Adams-Ginyard argued conservatives have a sense of humor, unlike “liberals who can’t take a joke.” She asked creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to target California Governor Gavin Newsom next, citing his policies. When South Park kicked off Season 27 with back-to-back episodes lampooning President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, the reactions were predictably heated. But for Janeshia Adams-Ginyard, an actress who guest-starred on the 2023 special South Park: Joining the Panderverse, the series’ sharp political humor is just business as usual. Speaking in an interview while between flights at Los Angeles International Airport, Adams-Ginyard made it clear she wasn’t offended by Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s latest satirical swings—even as a Trump voter. “They go after everybody, everybody is up for grabs on South Park,” she said.

The voice of the Black, female version of Eric Cartman loves how hard South Park has gone after President Donald “Saddam Hussein” Trump almost as much as she loves President Donald “Saddam Hussein” Trump.
Janeshia Adams-Ginyard is an actress, voice talent, stuntwoman and, as we learned recently, a “red, white and blue all day” right-winger who played a starring role in the popular South Park streaming special Joining the Panderverse. (Photo: Gage Skidmore / Flickr Creative Commons) Key Points: Fox News asked a judge to dismiss Gavin Newsom’s defamation lawsuit, calling it a political stunt meant to draw media attention. The lawsuit stems from a Fox segment that accused Newsom of lying about phone calls with President Trump. Newsom claims the segment damaged his political reputation and that Fox deliberately misled viewers about the nature of the call. Fox News says the lawsuit violates California’s anti-slapp statute, and that it is entitled to attorney’s fees.
Attorneys for Fox News Media on Thursday asked a federal judge to dismiss a news distortion and defamation lawsuit brought by California Governor Gavin Newsom, saying the case was filed frivolously in an effort to drum up media attention.

Fox News has filed a motion to throw out Gavin Newsom’s $787 million defamation suit, arguing that the governor is seeking to create a “press spectacle” to advance his presidential ambitions.
Newsom sued in June, alleging that Fox host Jesse Watters defamed him by claiming that Newsom lied about a phone call with President Trump. Watters has since offered a quasi-apology, saying that Newsom “wasn’t lying — he was just confusing and unclear.”
In the motion to dismiss filed on Tuesday, Fox News’ lawyers said that Newsom’s lawyers had offered to drop the case if Fox issued a retraction and an apology. Watters’ on-air remarks were an attempt to comply with that request and to avoid “pointless litigation,” the filing states.
However, Newsom has not withdrawn the suit. In response, Fox News now asserts that the original statements were “substantially true.”

Mr. Pratt goes to Washington, indeed.
On Aug. 4, reality star Spencer Pratt touched down in the nation’s capital for a three-day trip to meet with a slew of top federal officials including Attorney General Pam Bondi about the catastrophic fires that ravaged Los Angeles in January.
The visit marks an escalation in his battle with California Gov. Gavin Newsom that began last month. “The Hills” star, whose Pacific Palisades home and his parents’ residence were destroyed in the deadly blazes that also tore through Malibu and Altadena, has publicly accused the governor and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of mismanagement and negligence via viral TikTok videos that he first launched in July. Now, he’s going for the jugular.
“I’m literally their worst nightmare because I have nothing to lose, and all I’m ever gonna do is just post actual facts,” Pratt tells Variety in an exclusive interview.

The actor, who starred as Clark Kent/Superman in the 1990s TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, revealed Wednesday on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime that he’s signed up for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to help carry out President Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
“I put out a recruitment video yesterday — I’m actually a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer — I wasn’t part of Ice, but once I put that out there and you put a little blurb on your show, it went crazy,” he told host Jesse Watters. “So now I’ve spoken with some officials over at Ice, and I will be sworn in as an Ice agent, Asap.”

President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday that “we would do anything necessary to keep our Olympics safe, including using our National Guard or military.”
Trump made the comments after he signed an executive order establishing a task force on the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, a group that features cabinet secretaries and administration officials, including FCC chairman Brendan Carr.
Trump’s comment about using the National Guard or military follows his dispatch of troops to Los Angeles in response to protests of Ice raids. His decision to federalize the guard was opposed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who said that the show of federal force inflamed the situation.
At a White House event establishing the task force, the chair of the Olympic organizing committee, Casey Wasserman, had nothing but praise for Trump, including his assistance during his first term in ensuring that Los Angeles was selected as host city.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has threatened to remove Democratic members of the state legislature from their offices and charge them with felonies after they fled the state. Two dozen Texas Democrats traveled to Chicago, Illinois, on Sunday to deny the Republican–controlled legislature the quorum it needs to pass an off-cycle redistricting measure aimed at securing Republicans additional seats ahead of the 2026 midterms.
“The derelict Democrat House members must return to Texas and be in attendance

The U.S. added just 73,000 jobs in July, reflecting continued cuts in the federal government and uncertainty over trade policy, while the unemployment rate went up a tad to 4.2%.
There was job growth in health care and social assistance, while other categories remained flat.
The latest figures signaled caution among employers, grappling with the uncertainty of tariffs and tougher immigration policies.
Jobs in motion pictures and sound recordings rose by about 2,500, to 415,300 in July, while broadcasting and content providers saw a slight gain of 300 jobs, to 334,600.
Moreover, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revised downward figures from previous months, now showing that growth in May was just 19,000, while June hiring was just 14,000. All told, the bureau reduced their previous estimates for those months by 258,000.
The Bls typically revises figures from previous months, a reminder that the initial data is an estimate that does not capture the complete picture of the labor market.

One day after formally declining to throw her hat in the ring for California governor, Kamala Harris has unveiled her new memoir, a book following the tumultuous 107-day campaign for president in 2024.
“My new book is a behind-the-scenes look at my experience leading the shortest presidential campaign in modern history,” Harris wrote. The tome, titled 107 Days, will be published by Simon & Schuster on Sept. 23. And — in a pointed choice given the Donald Trump factor in the show’s cancellation — the politician will kick off her media tour with an appearance on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this evening.
The decision to appear on Colbert’s show, her first interview since the election loss, comes as that show is facing cancellation by CBS next year, amid a declining late-night landscape. The cancellation also arrived under the shadow of a deal to sell control of CBS and Paramount to a new owner,...

Kamala Harris will be a guest on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Thursday night.
The former vice president’s visit to the show, which is being billed as her “first interview since 2024 election,” comes on the heels of CBS cancelling “The Late Show” after next season. The network cited a “financial decision” when the news was announced July 17.

The book will be released on Sept. 23.

Kamala Harris’ announcement that she would not enter the race for California governor was quickly followed by a burst of praise from Democrats who’ve already launched their campaigns.
That’s a familiar ritual whenever a big-name candidate decides not to run, with would-be rivals from the same party offering up kind words and likely having a sense of relief.
Harris would have entered the race as the front-runner, according to recent polls, and the Democratic field likely would have dwindled. But had she run, she would have to navigate voter discontent going into 2026.
Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who launched his gubernatorial bid last year just as Harris was starting her presidential run, wrote on X: “I have deep respect for Vice President Kamala Harris and her decades of leadership and public service to the people of California and our nation. The runner-up in the 2024 U.S. presidential election won’t be running for California’s top job next year, but Kamala Harris isn’t ruling out a 2028 White House bid yet.
After months of speculation and impressive polling, the former Vice President has made it official: She’s not going to be on the ballot to lead the Golden State. “After deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election,” Harris said Wednesday.
The news certainly comes as a surprise to those outside Harris’ inner circle, though sources say Gov. Gavin Newsom was in the loop about what was going on.

FireAid’s organizers said Tuesday that they’ve tasked the concert’s law firm, Latham & Watkins, to review the organization’s grant process as the charitable concert faces scrutiny from President Donald Trump and a congressman in California over how the $100 million the show had raised has been doled out so far.
Trump blasted FireAid over the weekend, taking to Truth Social to call the benefit show “a total disaster” and “another democrat inspired scam,” claiming that the $100 million the concert had raised is missing. Trump’s jabs at FireAid came before he once again attacked California Governor Gavin Newsom (calling him Newscum), alleging that the governor mismanaged fire response. Meanwhile, Kevin Kiley, a Republican congressman for California’s third district, had called for the Department of Justice to investigate how FireAid disbursed its donations, claiming “none of the $100 million donated went directly to L.A. victims, and nonprofits having...

Candace Owens has been sued for defamation by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte over a years-long campaign featuring assertions that the first lady of France is male, marking the second time in as many months that a right-wing political commentator has been sued for allegedly false reporting.
Owens said last year that she “would stake [her] entire professional reputation on the fact that Brigitte Macron is in fact a man.” Since then, she’s leveraged the statement to juice her online following despite evidence disproving the claim, according to a lawsuit filed on Wednesday in Delaware state court.
In a video, Owens called the lawsuit an “obvious and desperate public relations strategy.”

Ryan Murphy is ready to up the ante with Season 3 of Monsterand has a warning for those out there with weak stomachs — maybe this isn’t the show for you. In a recent interview on Gavin Newsom’s podcast, This is Gavin Newsom, the series creator told the California governor that the upcoming installment, which is set to see Charlie Hunnam portray serial killer Ed Gein, “is not for the squeamish.” That warning is certainly saying something considering the first season, during which Evan Peters appeared as the notorious Jeffrey Dahmer, not only included the killer’s atrocious crimes, but also pointed to the possibility that he may have given his neighbors food made from human body parts.
For those who may not be familiar with Gein’s story, the man who would become known as “The Butcher of Plainfield” was a Wisconsin native who murdered at least two women in the 1950s.
