Image
Renewal

World Productions is producing a new season of hit series “Showtrial” for BBC One and iPlayer. Writer and creator Ben Richards (“The Diplomat”) returns for the series.

In the show, when high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood is left for dead in a violent hit and run, he uses his dying moments to identify his killer – a serving policeman. From the victim’s last breath to the jury’s final verdict, “Showtrial” delves into the worlds of cocky officer Justin Mitchell; Sam Gill, an anxious defense solicitor with a reputation for winning lost causes; and Leila Hassoun-Kenny, a rigorous lawyer leading the case against the accused.

The first season aired on the BBC in the U.K. in 2021 and found a U.S. home in Sundance Now.

“Showtrial” (5 x 60′) is directed by Julia Ford (“Everything I Know About Love”) and produced by Ken Horn (“Line of Duty”). Executive producers are...

Image
Line of Duty maker World’s BBC thriller Showtrial has been renewed for a second season with a fresh cast.

BAFTA-winning Sherwood star Adeel Akhtar will feature in a new story alongside Shane Meadows’ Gallows Pole lead Michael Socha and Nathalie Armin (Home), in the show created by The Diplomat’s Ben Richards.

But who is this unnamed ‘Officer X’? What does his own history reveal about the nature of trauma and revenge, and was Marcus’s death a careless accident or cold-blooded murder?”

‘Delia Balmer’: Anna Maxwell Martin & Shaun Evans Headline ITV True Crime Series From ‘The Pembrokeshire Murders’ Writer
Image
Exclusive: Line Of Duty star Anna Maxwell Martin and Vigil actor Shaun Evans are to headline an ITV true crime series about a woman who escapes a near-fatal relationship with a murderer.

BAFTA-winner Maxwell Martin will star as Delia Balmer, a woman who fell for murderer John Sweeney (Evans) and overcame a horrific attack to provide vital evidence in the prosecution against her former lover.

Delia Balmer (working title) is produced by ITV Studios-backed World Productions, which made Bodyguard and Line of Duty. Based on Balmer’s book Living with a Serial Killer, the four-part series is written by Nick Stevens, who penned Luke Evans drama The Pembrokeshire Murders.

Balmer, an agency nurse, met Sweeney in a London pub in 1991. His artistic, anti-establishment persona gave way to menacingly violent attacks on Balmer, during which he confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend and dumping her body in an Amsterdam canal.

BBC Cop Drama ‘Line Of Duty’, From ‘Bodyguard’s Jed Mercurio, Returns With 7.8M Viewers To Top 2019 Ratings
BBC cop drama Line of Duty has scored its highest ever opening ratings – was the Jed Mercurio-created series helped by the Bodyguard effect?

The fifth season launched with 7.8M overnight viewers on BBC One, scoring a 38% share. This trumped the 5M for its fourth season launch, which was its first since moving from BBC Two, as well as the 7.5M viewers that tuned in for last year’s finale. It hit a peak of 8M during its hour-long return.

The ratings mean that the World Productions drama currently sits as the highest rated programme across all channels in 2019 so far. It was also a hit for 16-34 viewers, making it the second highest rated show in that demo following an Fa Cup soccer game in January.

Season five of Line of Duty will air on Acorn TV in the U.S. Hulu previously premiered the show in the States...
