When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth didn’t get much attention when released here early in March of 1971. Only film fanatics obsessed with special effects had much to say about it. Cinefantastique magazine showed a still photo or two of dinosaurs on the rampage, and told us that stop-motion effects notable Jim Danforth, who we knew from mentions in Famous Monsters, was attached. We also learned that an animator named David Allen had worked on one sequence.

U2 bassist's ex-aide gets 7 years' jail for theft
Adam Clayton and U2
Dublin (AP) — A former household aide to U2 bassist Adam Clayton received a seven-year prison sentence Friday after an Irish jury unanimously found her guilty of embezzling more than €2.8 million ($3.6 million) from the musician. Carol Hawkins, 48, offered no response to the sentence as prison guards led her out of Dublin Criminal Court. Hawkins had been free on bail after being found guilty last week of 181 counts of writing checks from Clayton's bank account for her own use from 2004 to 2008. Records showed she used the money to buy designer clothing, 22 thoroughbred horses, a car,...

U2 Bassist Adam Clayton's Ex-Aide Gets 7-Year Prison Sentence

Dublin -- A former household aide to U2 bassist Adam Clayton received a seven-year prison sentence Friday after an Irish jury unanimously found her guilty of embezzling more than (Euro)2.8 million ($3.6 million) from the musician.

Carol Hawkins, 48, offered no response to the sentence as prison guards led her out of Dublin Criminal Court.

Hawkins had been free on bail after being found guilty last week of 181 counts of writing checks from Clayton's bank account for her own use from 2004 to 2008. Records showed she used the money to buy designer clothing, 22 thoroughbred horses, a car, university education for her two children and first-class flights.

Judge Patrick McCartan said in his ruling that Hawkins deserved a severe sentence because she had demonstrated no remorse, falsely tried to pin blame for her grandiose spending on the often-absent Clayton, and could attempt similar offenses again if not jailed.

"Nothing, frankly, could explain away the...

Adam Clayton and U2
U2 bassist Adam Clayton's former Pa was yesterday (June 29) found guilty of stealing £2.2m (€2.8m) from the star. Carol Hawkins, who had worked for Clayton for 17 years, was convicted on 181 counts of theft from Clayton's bank accounts over a four-year period. Hawkins told Dublin's Circuit Criminal Court that Clayton authorised her spending, which funded trips abroad, a new car, university courses for her children and the purchase and maintenance of 22 thoroughbred horses, reports Sky News. However, Clayton claimed that he was unaware of the purchases and only gave the Pa access to his accounts in order to pay bills related to his Dublin mansion. Hawkins was revealed to have written 181 cheques to deposit cash into her own account, a joint account with her then husband, and a credit card account. The theft emerged in 2008, when the aide confessed (more)...

Adam Clayton 'trusted' Pa accused of theft
Adam Clayton gave his 'absolute trust' to his former personal assistant who has been accused of stealing 2.8 million Euros from him. The U2 bassist's former aide Carol Hawkins denies stealing 181 cheques from the musician over a four-year period and while giving evidence against the 48-year-old defendant at her trial he admitted being 'extremely surprised' by the episode because she had previously accused others of being 'greedy'. Speaking at the Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin, he said: 'She had my absolute trust. We had been together a long time; working together. She had been very conscientious. 'I felt she looked after my money and on many occasions accused others of being greedy, so I was extremely...

Adam Clayton lost 2.8 million to Pa
Adam Clayton's former personal assistant allegedly stole 2.8 million Euros from him. The U2 bassist's former aide, Carol Hawkins, has denied taking the huge sum from the 52-year-old rocker in a plot involving 181 cheques over a four-year period. Prosecutor Colm O'Briain told the Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday (07.06.12) that Adam made her a signatory to his bank accounts, describing the case as a 'grubby' breach of trust. He said: 'Mr Clayton placed a substantial amount of trust in her. He is as entitled as any other to place his trust in people.' Carol, 48, is accused of stealing the money between 2004 and 2008 - including one single withdrawal of 310,000 Euros - whilst earning 48,000 Euros...
