In December 2013, she enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Irvine for 2014. In 2018, she received her Associate's of Art degree in Merchandise Product Development and announced her intentions to start a bachelor's degree program.

In June 2010, she announced (via Twitter) her retirement from acting. She retracted said announcement in August of that same year, although she hasn't yet made a comeback.

Diagnosed with Schizophrenia after being placed on an involuntary 72-hour 5150 psychiatric hold in July of 2013. The mental health evaluation was later extended.

The surname "Bynes" traces back to Amanda's great-grandfather, Joseph Bynes, who was born in Lithuania. Amanda's father is of Lithuanian, Irish, and Polish ancestry. Amanda's mother's family is Jewish (they moved from Poland, Russia, and Romania to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where Amanda's maternal grandparents were from).

In August 2007 she launched her own clothing line, "Dear by Amanda Bynes", in conjunction with Steve and Barry's chain of stores.

Dad, Rick Bynes, is a retired dentist. Her Mom, Lynn Bynes ( née Organ ) , worked in her father's dental office. She has a sister, Jillian Bynes (b. February 1, 1983), and a brother, Thomas (b. December 5, 1973), who is a chiropractor, as well as a niece named Jaylynn (b. March 4, 2004).

Met Paul Michael in February 2019, and they started dating shortly afterward. They got engaged on February 14, 2020.

Relocated to Austin, TX, in 2020.

First concert she ever attended was Britney Spears'.
