Chain Reaction (1996) – What Happened to This Sci-Fi Action Movie?
Image
The Chain Reaction episode of What Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written and Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Narrated by Tyler Nichols, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

In the summer of 1996, Chain Reaction hit theaters with just about everything you’d want from a ’90s action thriller. Keanu Reeves was still riding high as the sympathetic action hero from Speed. Morgan Freeman brought his A-game and his signature weapon voice. Even director Andrew Davis was a hot commodity, fresh off directing The Fugitive, which had critics cheering and audiences running to theaters like they were being chased by Tommy Lee Jones. Throw in classic ‘90s plot elements like government conspiracy, corrupt suits, and a groundbreaking scientific discovery, and you’ve got popcorn gold. Or at least you should. The script went through many rewrites, which resulted in a frustrated cast. Filming took...

Frédéric Boyer, Geoffrey Gilmore, and Genna Terranova
Victoria Franco’s debut feature “Twelve Moons” bowed Saturday in Tribeca’s International Narrative Competition, drawing a full house to Village East after its world-premiere screening on 7 June. The 97-minute Mexican drama follows Sofía, a 40-year-old architect whose infertility struggle and mounting addictions send her spiralling through Mexico City’s night streets. Festival programmer Frédéric Boyer hails the film as “a haunting portrait of struggle, grief, longing and self-destruction,” praising Ana de la Reguera’s lead performance for its “raw physicality and emotional depth.”

Franco wrote, directed and produced the picture alongside her brother, Cannes-laureate Michel Franco and regular collaborators Eréndira Núñez Larios and Yardena Maimon. The filmmaker arrives at Tribeca after shorts Reconciliados (2014) and Borde (2017) and a co-directing credit on Through the Eyes with Michel, experience she says helped her “calibrate intimacy on a larger canvas.” Cinematographer Sergio Armstrong’s roving handheld work and composer Rodrigo M.T.’s minimalist...

Jane Rosenthal Champions Female and Nonbinary Filmmakers When the “Very Act of Us Speaking Up Feels Risky” at Chanel Tribeca Festival Luncheon
Image
When actress Mira Sorvino thinks about what and who helped her launch her career, she credits Tribeca Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal for giving her that break.

“Jane Rosenthal actually gave me my first job in the industry. It started off being a volunteer position — I was an intern at Tribeca Productions, reading scripts. Then it turned into a paid position as a reader after they ended up liking my coverage. I did that for two years, and during that time I actually read the script Amongst Friends that ended up being the first feature that I ever starred in. We went to Sundance and that launched my career,” the actress recalled. “Tribeca helped me start my career, and it’s always given a hand up to young artists and people who had the gumption to just go for it.”

Billy Joel Doc Makers Lament Ailing Subject Couldn’t Make Tribeca Opening Night but Insist “He’s Going to Be Fine”
Image
The 2025 Tribeca Festival kicked off with the world premiere of the HBO documentary Billy Joel: And So it Goes, but its subject was unable to attend the celebration.

Joel announced last week that he had been diagnosed with brain disorder normal pressure hydrocephalus (Nph), leading him to cancel his upcoming concerts and prompting concern from fans.

In keeping with that focus on recovery, Joel wasn’t on hand for the Tribeca Festival opening night celebration, but the directors and producers of the two-part film, echoing comments made yesterday from Joel friend Howard Stern, indicated there’s no reason to be too concerned about the “Piano Man” performer.

“He’s going to be fine,” co-director Susan Lacy told The Hollywood Reporter before Wednesday night’s screening. “He just needs to recover. He needs to do the physical therapy, which he’s doing — the doctors were telling him yesterday he’ll be fine.

Fog of War Review: More Haze Than Heat in This WWII Thriller
Image
Alright, let’s get into “Fog of War.” This is a film that sets out with an intriguing premise, dropping us into the tense atmosphere of World War II, but rather than the front lines, we’re on a seemingly tranquil Massachusetts farm.

This World War II piece attempts to intertwine a spy thriller with a family drama, setting its stage in 1944 on that secluded farm. The air is thick with the impending D-Day, and our hero, Lieutenant Gene Lewis, an American pilot, gets a rather unsettling assignment: to snoop around his fiancée Penny’s wealthy family.

Apparently, suspicious signals are emanating from their estate, possibly linked to Nazi spies and compromised Allied plans. So, you’ve got this immediate setup of high global stakes crashing into very personal, intimate territory. The promise is one of gnawing suspicion where trust is the first casualty.

Planting Seeds of Suspicion

So, the...

"Hilarious and Also Terrifying": Alan Cumming Spills the Beans on 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' Sequel
Image
Two years from now, we will mark the 30th anniversary of Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. The 1997 comedy starred Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino. A sequel has been in the works for some time. Back in January, director Tim Federle was announced as being attached to the project. Now we've got an even bigger update, including when we could expect the sequel. Alan Cumming, who played Sandy Frink, talked with People and dished on what we can expect. "It's very exciting. It's been really fun actually talking to Robin [Schiff], the writer and Lisa [Kudrow] as well about it.” The original film followed friends Romy and Michele as they approached their high school reunion. Feeling like they had nothing to really show for their lives in the years that had passed, they aimed to create elaborate backstories for their fake accomplishments.

Also revealed back in January was the news that Kudrow...

Since its premiere, How I Met Your Mother has become an iconic TV sensation. The series aired for nine seasons starting in 2005 and ending in 2014 while Ted Mosby told his children the long story of meeting their mother. The show portrayed five friends’ experiences in Manhattan while they dealt with adulthood, careers, and relationships in their lives.

Himym established its success through its different storytelling features as well as its humor combined with the undeniable bond among the lead characters. The show designed its plot structure in a non-linear way. Its memorable dialogue and brainchild concepts, such as “Bro Code”, lived on as pop culture references after the series.

The upcoming thriller Fog of War brings World War II to American soil with a taut tale of espionage and suspicion. The movie takes place in Massachusetts in 1944, where evidence of the Allies’ developing plans for their D-Day invasion are taken by a German spy. The movie was directed by Michael Day, and written by Luke Langsdale.

ScreenRant is happy to present the trailer for Fog of War. In it, the thriller’s incredibly high stakes are quickly established as it’s clear that if the Nazi spy escapes, the balance of the world’s largest war could easily tip in the Nazis' favor. Mikey Madison's Oscar Win for 'Anora' Continues a Telling Hollywood Trend
Image
At the 97th Academy Awards this past Sunday, Mikey Madison won Best Actress in a Leading Role for her eponymous role in Sean Baker's Anora. Anoratook home five other Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. It follows the titular character as she embarks on a whirlwind romance and eventual "fraud marriage" with the son of a Russian Oligarch (Mark Eydelshteyn). In her victory speech, the 25-year-old Madison(who also made history by becoming the first Gen Z actor to win an Oscar) proudly thanked and honored the sex worker community.

While Anora and Mikey Madison's win is one of the most overt examples of the Oscars recognizing sex work in recent memory, it has happened more times than many people may realize. 14 different women have taken home Academy Awards for portraying sex workers. In fact, Emma Stone also won in 2024 for portraying Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lantimos' Poor Things.

Blue Bloods' upcoming spinoff almost had a completely different setting
Image
Blue Bloods is a CBS institution. The show lasted a whopping 14 seasons on the network, and proved to be one of its steadiest ratings draws. So much so, in fact, that the cast voiced frustration when the show canceled.

Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg made it clear they didn't want to call it quits just yet, and each of them expressed an interest in continuing via spinoff or sequel series. Well, one of the actors got their wish. Wahlberg will be heading up Boston Bloods, a spinoff that follows his character as he relocates to the Athens of America.

CBS considered Texas as a spinoff setting “Bad To Worse” – Frank intervenes when tensions rise between Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) and the Fire Commissioner of New York City (Mira Sorvino). Also, Erin is blindsided when Henry agrees to testify for the defense in a case she is prosecuting; Danny...

Oscars 2025: Anora’s Mikey Madison Becomes 16th Actress To Win For Portraying A Prostitute, Joining Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone & Charlize Theron’s Club
Image
Did Mikey Madison win an Oscar for portraying a prostitute in Anora? (Photo Credit – AnoraFilm Instagram)

The 2025 Academy Awards came and went in a whirlwind, forging legacies for a slew of talents, though it’s the newcomers who galvanize the most intrigue with their ties to the golden statuette. Amid the night’s fervor, one victory stood out — a triumph that spotlights both a fresh face and a storied trope.

Mikey Madison, the 25-year-old dynamo from Anora, seized her first Oscar for Best Actress, outpacing The Substance’s Demi Moore in a twist few had prognosticated. The win, flanked by Anora’s haul of Best Picture, Director, and more, incentivized a floodlight on her nascent Hollywood path.

Maddison’s raw and unapologetic portrayal of the titular sex worker elucidated a character far from cliché, cementing her ascent with a cataclysmic bang. That win didn’t transpire without etching new stats...
