10 Horrifying Scenes From Non-Horror Movies That Terrified Kids
Image
Although horror is a movie genre of its own, there are several non-horror movies that have strange scenes that terrify children. Horror is a vast genre with many iconic franchises, including Scream, Halloween, and Friday the 13th. Despite the wide-encompassing genre, not all horror movies or TV shows are necessarily terrifying. There are even horror books that are not too scary, even if they provide a fright now and then. There are also several scary movies that are not horror films at all.

Sometimes, Hollywood produces media for children that is not meant to be scary, but they frighten kids regardless. There are several scary TV shows for kids, while other iconic kids' shows have unforgettable scary moments. These scenes are scary because of shocking deaths, character nightmares, or grotesque appearances of fantastical entities. Aside from TV shows, several films also have horrifying scenes that have utterly terrified kids, despite...

Jenna Ortega Isn't The Only Wednesday Actor Reuniting With Tim Burton In Beetlejuice 2
Image
As it turns out, Jenna Ortega isnt the only Wednesday actor featured in Beetlejuice 2. Tim Burton is well known for using a revolving troupe of actors in his movies and even in Wednesday, with the acclaimed filmmaker having previously worked with Beetlejuice 2 cast members like Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Catherine OHara, Danny DeVito, and Jenna Ortega on several projects. Ahead of Beetlejuice 2s release, its now confirmed that Burton recruited at least two actors he directed on Wednesday season 1 to appear in his beloved spooky world.

It had previously seemed that Jenna Ortega, who plays Astrid Deetz, would be the only Wednesday cast member in Burtons 2024 Beetlejuice sequel. Ortega revealed that Burton came to her about joining Beetlejuice 2 during meeting she thought was about Wednesday season 2, giving her the opportunity to expand beyond playing members of the classic Addams family to join his iconic Deetz family tree.

10 Movie Characters Who Belong in Another Genre
Image
Movies typically follow their genre's conventions and rules, especially when it comes to characters. This unspoken rule, however, hasn't stopped filmmakers from adding a character that belonged in a completely different genre to their works. And this kind of rule-breaking wasn't a negative since it made movies like From Dusk Till Dawn more iconic.

Even though these genre characters seemed misplaced, they added more creativity and personality to what could've been forgettable genre movies. Excluding comedies like Army of Darkness, The Big Lebowski or Deadpool, where their entire joke was a hero lost in another genre, nobody expected these characters to show up like they did.

This Is the Most Evil Laugh in a Movie
Image
There are plenty of evil laughs in movie history, but you would be hard-pressed to find one that's more diabolical than the one that Large Marge (Alice Nunn) lets out in Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The first big screen adventure for Pee-wee (Paul Reubens) mostly rides the runtime with a good streak of light fun, but deep into the second act, a ghostly truck driver comes along to stop the show and flip the script entirely. Large Marge's scene isn't just a showstopper — it just might be the best scene in the entire movie. Not only does it showcase the different kinds of wild adventures that Pee-wee can find himself in, but it's also a testament to director Tim Burton's darkly comic filmmaking chops. For adults, this scene is absolutely hilarious, but for kids, Large Marge's arrival is one of the most sinister moments of all time and is capped...

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Was A Big Inspiration For A Horror Classic
Image
The late, great Paul Reubens was an artist of incredible duality, a quality embodied by his most famous character, Pee-wee Herman. With his neatly-cropped hair, snazzy red bow tie, and stylin' grey suit and pants, Pee-wee looked like a member of The Little Rascals who had inexplicably grown up overnight. He wasn't all childish innocence and mischief, though. More than a bratty streak, there was something undeniably twisted about Pee-wee, even if, as a kid, I could never quite place my finger on what it was. I just knew that I liked it.

Reubens' brilliance in the art of dark absurdism made him a perfect match for Tim Burton, another artist who appealed to my off-kilter sensibilities before I was old enough to understand why. The pair would join forces multiple times over the course of Reubens' career, beginning with Burton's feature directing debut, "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," in 1985. Looking back now,...

Pee-wee's Big Adventure 35th Anniversary Tour Is Happening with Paul Reubens
Paul Reubens
Pee-wee Herman is taking Pee-wee's Big Adventure on the road with a Spring 2020 tour across the United States, with star Paul Reubens present to watch the classic comedy with fans. Beginning on Feb. 14, 2020 with a start in Portland, Oregon, the tour will run through March 29, bowing out with a show in Washington D.C. Each screening will also be followed with Reubens addressing the live crowd with behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the movie.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure is a very notable movie for multiple reasons. It's not only the first Pee-wee movie to hit the big screen following the introduction of the character on the TV series Pee-wee's Playhouse, but also the debut film of legendary director Tim Burton. Additionally, the movie is the first major motion picture to be scored by composer Danny Elfman. Included in the cast alongside Paul Reubens in the classic movie are Elizabeth Daily,...

Pee-wee Herman Celebrates Large Marge on the Anniversary of Her Death
There's not many scenes in a family movie that can scare children as well as adults, even more than 30 years later, but the legend of Large Marge from Pee-wee's Big Adventure has that rare distinction. Large Marge died in a fiery auto wreck on a stretch of highway on January 11th, 1974 and she's still haunting the dreams of nearly anybody who has seen the movie. In honor of the 44th anniversary of her death, Pee-wee Herman took to Twitter to pay tribute to her legend.

In Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Pee-wee is hitchhiking on a dark foggy night when he gets picked up by Large Marge who is quiet for a bit before she shares her haunting tale. She begins by saying, "On this very night, ten years ago, along this same stretch of road in a dense fog just like this..." and goes on to say that she saw the...

The Definitive Scary Scenes from Non-Horror Movies: 10-1
10. Deliverance (1972)

Scene: Squeal Like a Piggy

Video: http://youtu.be/WqNMjZpSbnU

Word to the wise: just because someone plays a mighty fine banjo, it doesn’t mean he or any of his kin should be invited to your family picnic. Based on the James Dickey novel of the same name, Deliverance follows four businessmen as they decide to spend a weekend canoeing down a fictional river before it needs to be flooded. Lewis (Burt Reynolds) leads the crew as the most experienced, followed closely by Ed (Jon Voight). The two novices Bobby and Drew (Ned Beatty, Ronny Cox) also join them. So, in remote Georgia, the four men set out to take in the beauty of nature. Before setting off, they come across a group of mountain men, all of which appear to be inbred. Drew engages in a banjo duet with one of the teenagers, but he doesn’t...

Saving Abel's Top 10 Female Villains
Saving Abel has a new album dropping on June 8th entitled Miss America, and since the guys are horror fans, they thought they'd pay a little tribute to some of the not-so-wholesome women who have haunted their dreams and nightmares over the years.

The band consists of Jared Weeks-Vocals, Jason Null-Guitars, Scott Bartlett-Guitars, Eric Taylor-Bass, and Blake Dixon-Drums. All five of them collaborated to compile the list of their Top Ten favorite female villains. (An honorable mention went to commentator Nancy Grace.)

10. Medusa (Clash of the Titans) - A mythological creature called a Gorgon. A half-snake, half-human creature, which is the same way I describe a few ex-girlfriends and oddly enough wouldn't mind seeing beheaded.

9. The Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton, The Wizard of Oz) - You can't talk about female villains without mentioning The Wicked Witch. She's a fixture in just about everyone's childhood horror memory bank.
