Married kindergarten teacher Orly Kaye, whom he met in 1983 while on a break from graduate school and working on a kibbutz in Israel. The couple has two sons, Jordan Katz Kaye (born 1991) and Geffen Katz-Kaye (born 2002 as Geffen Raphael Kaye).
