Friday The 13th: Actor Who Will Play Jason Voorhees In First "Jason Universe" Project Revealed
Image
After spending 16 years lying dormant at the bottom of a lake due to complicated rights issues relating to the character, Jason Voorhees is finally set to return to terrorize a new group of teenage camp councillors.

We recently learned that Chucky and Long Bright River actor Callum Vinson has been cast as a young, pre-relentless killer take on Jason in A24's Crystal Lake prequel series, but we now have an update on the first actor to don the legendary movie maniac's iconic hockey mask on screen since the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that a new 13-minute short titled Sweet Revenge is coming our way next week as part of the newly-formed Jason Universe, and Voorhees will be played by actor and stuntman Schuyler White, who previously portrayed the character in director Mike P. Nelson’s vignette.

Though a new actor might well take over as Jason when - well,...

Sean Cunningham 2015
Crystal Lake TV series is now filming in the town where the original Friday the 13th was filmed
Sean Cunningham 2015
The town of Blairstown, New Jersey was used as the stand-in for the fictional town of Crystal Lake during the filming of director Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 classic Friday the 13th – and now, the cast and crew of the Peacock TV series Crystal Lake are filming in the same town, making this the first Friday the 13th project to use Blairstown as Crystal Lake since the original movie! Pictures from the set can be seen below.

On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop Crystal Lake. Things were moving ahead at a good pace,...

It: Welcome to Derry season 2 might already be happening
Image
To call Stephen King prolific is an understatement. Over the course of six decades, the man has become more than just an author; he is now an internationally recognizable brand unto himself. He has written 65 novels in total, in addition to hundreds more short stories since first debuting in 1974 with his first book, Carrie.

Considering the sheer volume of work that King has created, what is even more surprising is just how lengthy many of his books are. One of the longest books King has ever written was It, released in 1986. The book housed a massive tale of horror, with a tale spread across multiple generations and dozens of characters.

The book was so long that each on-screen adaptation of it has had to embrace long-form storytelling of one form or another. For the ‘90s adaptation, director Tommy Lee Wallace crafted the iconic television mini-series starring Tim Curry. For the more recent effort,...

Crystal Lake features an adult Jason Voorhees, but who is it?
Victor Miller
This article was originally published on July 24th, but now we have added an Update.

On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. Things were moving ahead at a good pace, filming was expected to begin last July, but then the project hit a speed bump at the end of April with the firing of Fuller and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray. Nancy Nagrant Playing Relative of Original ‘Friday the 13th’ Character in ‘Crystal Lake’
Image
Casting continues on the upcoming Friday the 13th television series “Crystal Lake,” with filming on the project underway as we speak. The series from Peacock and A24 is set to be an expanded prequel to the original slasher classic from 1980, and that’s been reflected by many of the casting announcements that have been hitting our desk in recent weeks.

Callum Vinson is playing a young Jason Voorhees in the series, with Linda Cardellini starring as Mrs. Voorhees. Cameron Scoggins is playing Dorf, also a character from the original Friday the 13th, with Nick Cordileone as “Crazy Ralph,” Danielle Kotch as Claudette, and Phoenix Parnevik as Barry, all characters from that original movie.

The fan website Friday the 13th Franchise additionally reports today that Nancy Nagrant has joined the cast as Kay Christy, a relative of Steve Christy from Friday the 13th (1980)!

Steve Christy was played by Peter Brouwer in Sean Cunningham’s slasher classic,...

Crystal Lake: Everything We Know About Peacock’s Friday the 13th Prequel
Image
If you’ve ever whispered “Kill her, Mommy” under your breath while chopping vegetables, this one’s for you.

For fans of the original Friday the 13th — especially those of us who worship the first two films — Peacock’s upcoming series Crystal Lake might be the most exciting horror revival on the horizon. And while it’s taken a few machete swings behind the scenes, the project is alive, bloody, and officially filming in New Jersey.

Here’s everything we know so far about the return to the woods that started it all…

(Paramount Pictures/Screenshot) What’s Crystal Lake About?

Peacock is calling Crystal Lake an “expanded prequel,” but that doesn’t quite do justice to the scope of what’s been teased.

It: Welcome To Derry Trailer Teases Fresh Reign Of Pennywise Terror In Period Prequel Series
Image
Considering the fact that It — or Pennywise the Dancing Clown, as they prefer — is an ancient extraterrestrial entity who made first contact with Earth in approximately 1 Million Bce, it's somewhat surprising that it's taken 39 years for Stephen King's horror opus and its titular terrifier to get a spin-off. But now, with HBO Max's upcoming It: Welcome To Derry, we are about to get exactly that: a prequel series to Andy Muschietti's It duology set in 1962, 27 years before Pennywise and The Loser Club first made each other's acquaintance. And if the new trailer for the show is anything to go by, it looks like sleep's back off the menu — check it out below;

Globophobes, coulrophobes, and general fraidy-cats (us included) beware — showrunners Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane aren't clowning around as they pick up the baton from series co-developer Muschietti with Welcome To Derry. Despite this latest...

‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Connects Stephen King’s Worlds in Chilling Teaser
Image
HBO has released the second official trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, offering a chilling preview of the upcoming nine-episode series based on Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel. Arriving on HBO Max this October, the prequel pulls audiences back into the cursed town of Derry, Maine, to explore the evil that lurked there long before the Losers’ Club faced off against Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

The teaser begins in 1962, as a new family settles into town, unaware of the dark force that quietly festers beneath the surface. Early glimpses hint at a population infected by paranoia and cruelty, as an unexplained evil appears to feed on Derry’s collective fears. While Bill Skarsgård’s return as Pennywise is only teased, his looming presence is unmistakable, with references to mysterious disappearances and unspoken horrors suggesting the beginning of a fresh cycle of terror.

All Hell Breaks Loose In It: Welcome To Derry Trailer As HBO Sets October Premiere For Prequel TV Series
Image
A new trailer for It: Welcome to Derry has been released following a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday evening, and it teases a sinister, demonic force in the small town, which may be there in addition to Pennywise.

Once again, we see very little of Bill Skarsgård's killer clown, an indication perhaps that his screentime will be fairly limited. That or HBO Max is simply looking to keep the iconic monster and his role in this story under wraps (ensuring there are plenty of surprises for horror fans).

It's also been confirmed that It: Welcome to Derry will premiere this October, meaning we should return to Derry in time for Halloween.

The series, from Warner Bros. Television and developed for television by filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman), will debut on HBO and also be available to stream on Max. Muschietti will direct...

Jason Voorhees is back in teaser trailer for Sweet Revenge vignette
Image
2025 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of one of the most popular horror movies ever made, Friday the 13th, the movie that launched my favorite franchise, and one that I feel is underrated, as it’s a great film that often gets overshadowed by its sequels. Last year, the Friday the 13th franchise rights holders at Horror Inc. announced that they were launching the Jason Universe, which would encompass “new Friday the 13th activations that will span a wide range of platforms from entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise and more to be announced @JasonUniverse13 on social media or by visiting the official Jason Universe website.” Now, they’ve shared some information on what’s ahead for the franchise at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, unveiling a teaser trailer for the vignette Sweet Revenge from writer/director Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn) and a panel-exclusive message from the set of Crystal Lake,...

Exclusive: ‘Friday the 13th’ Series ‘Crystal Lake’ Reportedly Features Adult Jason Voorhees
Image
Dread Central has learned from reliable production insiders that Schuyler White, a seasoned creature and stunt performer, is in talks to appear as adult Jason Voorhees in Crystal Lake, the forthcoming Friday the 13th prequel series from Peacock and A24. While Peacock has not officially confirmed the casting, this would mark the first news of an adult Jason appearing in the series.

Two other significant castings have been confirmed: Linda Cardellini will portray Pamela Voorhees, and Callum Vinson is set to play young Jason, the boy whose fate was the catalyst for the entire Voorhees legacy.

Notably, Crystal Lake has undergone a major creative shift. Original showrunner Bryan Fuller exited the project amid reported creative differences. Brad Caleb Kane (known for the upcoming HBO Max series It: Welcome to Derry) has since taken over as creator and lead showrunner. The series has been retooled under Kane’s vision.

Callum Vinson cast as young Jason Voorhees in Peacock's Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake
Image
Friday the 13th fans worried that Jason Voorhees may not show up in Peacock's prequel series Crystal Lake will be happy to know that a new actor has been cast in the role, well, as young Jason, at least. It was just announced that Callum Vinson will be the next Jason.

Vinson's previous roles include the TV series Chucky and Long Bright River. Peacock's prequel series is being created in partnership with A24. It will primarily follow the story of Jason's mom, Pamela Voorhees, who avenged her special needs son after he drowned. Linda Cardellini has been cast as Pamela. The prequel series is named after the town and summer camp where most of the movies occur and where Jason drowned. Because Vinson is billed as a reoccurring guest star, it's unclear how many episodes he'll appear in, especially since the series focuses on Pamela. Most likely, we'll see scenes...

Crystal Lake: Jason Voorhees Has Finally Been Cast In Friday The 13th Prequel TV Series
Image
Deadline (via FearHQ.com) has revealed that A24's Crystal Lake TV series has found its Jason Voorhees in Chucky and Long Bright River star Callum Vinson. The actor, born in 2014, will play the child version of the terrifying serial killer, as the show shifts the spotlight to his mother, Linda Cardellini's Pamela Voorhees.

It's previously been reported that Pamela will be portrayed as a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child. Things take a dark turn when Jason drowns at summer camp—the titular "Crystal Lake"—prompting Pamela to go on a killing spree, making the camp counsellors pay for their negligence.

However, when the young Jason witnesses one of the camp counsellors decapitating his mom, he's inspired to go on a murder spree of his own. There's a supernatural element to the character, but it's thought he survived that apparent drowning...

Deadline reports that Callum Vinson, best known for his role as Henry Collins in the Chucky franchise, has joined the cast of Crystal Lake as a young Jason Vorhees. Peacock’s ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel ‘Crystal Lake’ Finds Its Jason Voorhees
Image
Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel series taking shape at Peacock, has cast the actor playing Jason — who will not be fitted with a hockey mask anytime soon.

Callum Vinson (Long Bright River, The Night Agent) will play the young Jason in the show. He’s one of five actors who have joined the cast in recurring roles, along with Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik.

The A24-produced Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, who (45-year-old spoiler alert) is responsible for the killings in the first Friday the 13th movie before her unkillable son Jason takes over. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom will also be series regulars, playing characters named Levon Brooks, Briana Brooks, Dorf and Grace. Details about those characters and the show’s plot are being kept quiet.

Cordileone (Warrior) will play a character named Ralph.

Filming is underway on showrunner Brad Caleb Kane’s “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming Friday the 13th television series from Peacock and A24 that will serve as an expanded prequel to the legendary slasher franchise. And the new Jason Voorhees has boarded the project.

“Chucky” actor Callum Vinson has joined the series as young Jason Voorhees, Deadline reports today.

Vinson, who recently starred as Henry Collins in “Chucky” season three, is billed as a recurring guest star, as this new project focuses on Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees. The series’ version of Pamela Voorhees is “believed to be a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.”

Linda Cardellini stars in “Crystal Lake” as Mrs. Voorhees, who was of course the killer in the original Friday the 13th (1980). She’s joined by William Catlett (Abigail...

Peacock’s ‘Friday The 13th’ Prequel Series ‘Crystal Lake’ Casts Callum Vinson As Jason Voorhees
Image
A new Jason Voorhees has joined the Friday the 13th universe, as Callum Vinson boards Peacock’s prequel series Crystal Lake from A24. Brad Caleb Kane serves as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer of the series.

The hockey mask-wearing serial killer from the big screen is the son of Pamela Voorhees, to be played by Linda Cardellini in the new show. Cardellini’s Pamela is believed to be a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.

Crystal Lake is a town, a lake, and a summer camp in the franchise, the setting of the series. Voorhees drowned in the lake as a child, which led to his mother’s killing spree at the camp to avenge his “death.” Jason witnessed his mother’s decapitation by a camp counselor, which...

Filming kicked off last month on “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming Friday the 13th television series from Peacock and A24 that will serve as an expanded prequel to the legendary slasher franchise. It’s shooting under the faux title “Mama’s Boy,” and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane’s Instagram account has become our go-to source for behind the scenes updates.

Caleb Kane shared a set photo this morning that quite literally takes us into the woods of Crystal Lake, with a cabin seen off in the distance. It almost looks like a shot from the point-of-view of Mrs. Voorhees, who will no doubt be slaying camp counselors in the Peacock series.

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane captions the photo, “The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I’ve got promises to keep, and folks to kill before I sleep.” Check out the Instagram post below.

Stay tuned for more “Crystal Lake” updates in the coming months!

16 Years After the Last ‘Friday the 13th’ Movie, ‘Crystal Lake’ Gets a Jason-Sized Filming Update
Image
Well horror fans, the day has finally come. After the pure production hell and misfortune that seemed to plague Crystal Lake, also known as the Friday the 13th prequel series, its showrunner, Brad Caleb Kane, took to social media to share an extraordinary update — filming has begun. Sharing an image of a clapperboard along with the title’s code name, Mama’s Boy, Kane wrote “Production Day 1. It’s real folks.” It sure is real, and we can’t wait to see the slasher back on screen after 16 — that’s right, sixteen — years. Also included on the board was the name of the episode’s director, Michael Lennox, who previously stood at the helm of television shows like Say Nothing and Derry Girls.

This won’t be your typical Friday the 13th installment in which Jason Vorhees dons a hockey mask and chops down a hoard of unsuspecting victims. As the name suggests,...
