I guess every child wants to have magical powers. What if this dream comes true? Kajtek, a teenage boy with an exceptionally rebellious temperament, grows up with his father and grandmother. The class prankster one day discovers supernatural abilities. An unusual talent combined with the boy's unruly character mean big problems not only for the school, but also for the entire city. Magical powers take control over Kajtek's life, and from now on he deals with both the disliked teachers and the entire school community, gaining sympathy and fame among his peers. The situation begins to get complicated when the forces of good and evil begin to compete for the boy with magical abilities. Which way will the young wizard go?

This simple story is the feature debut for well-known Slovak theater and television director Juraj Nvota. Set in a Slovak village at the turn of the last century, the story teems with passion, and repressed and hidden emotion. It delves into the search for identity, investigating both love and hatred, while dramatizing the tragic relationship between an adolescent girl (Tatiana Pauhofová) and her ambitious father (Ondrej Vetchý). Set against the striking though simple backdrop of a picturesque, even idyllic, landscape - one ostensibly cut off from any important historical, political, or social context whatsoever - the arrival of an unwanted individual evokes the onset of a cruel drama.

Rufus (Jirí Schmitzer) and Churchill (Zdenek Novák) live through the seasons together, experiencing hope and desperation along the way. In a world limited by totalitarianism, they have chosen to live as outsiders, their decision blessed by humility and the courage of defiance. In spite of the fact that Churchill rejects commitments, his relationship with the fragile Gréta has produced a daughter. Rufus has a son by Katerina, and they try to lead a 'normal' life. The two fathers betroth their children to each other in the somewhat swaggering desire to confirm their own lifestyle. Young Gréta and Rufus grow up, and hope comes of their encounter years later - perhaps for themselves even if not for their parents. Perhaps for the viewer too.
