There's something almost unexplainably captivating about this show. From a top-down view, the show's writing is absolutely excellent, but it gets bogged down by middle of the row dialogue (translation might've affected this) and rushed pace. Despite this, the show completely won me over.
The action is dynamic and creative, the tone was absolutely crushed, the characters won me over, and I felt connected to the story by the end of the season.
While the exciting action sequences and amazing score carried at points, it was ultimately the tone that converted me to the story. The feeling of encroaching dread was tragic because of the death of the world but it felt like that was the least of the world's problems.
Each episode pointed out how the world was slowly being consumed by fear, war, and desire for power. By the end, I didn't know if the characters would even choose to stop their fate. But our main cast exemplifies what Watanabe feels we should be. People from worlds apart but brought together to bring this dying earth back to life.
There's is something so earnest and genuine about that desire and I love it. I really hope that there is a season two, because I would be first in line to watch.
(Here's hoping it gets a 26 episode run instead of 13 and gets a really solid dialogue pass.)

Art house-Anime-Rick and Morty? Can't say that I expected that. I'm pleasantly surprised to say the least. A lot of the criticism for this show seems to stem from a strange expectation that this was supposed to be another season of the show, but this is supposed to be a whole new experience inspired by the world and featuring the characters from the show.
The first two episodes were utterly confusing, but it seems that was the intention from the start. Drip feeding like six different story arcs in different dimensions is sure to be confusing to some, but this episode began to clear up some of the confusion I felt in the earlier episodes.
The animation is actually quite stunning and I personally am enjoying the references to famous movies thrown in. I didn't find the voices to be as distracting as I thought they would be. I hope that more answers to the story will continue to be explained for the more common viewer to be able to understand, but I am enjoying this really unique story structure and off-the-wall(s?) writing. The only criticism I would share is that some of the dialogue is super hammy, but that's something that all the Anime I've watched seems to suffer from so it doesn't bother me too much.
Give this show a chance and marvel at the insanity and stunning animation. Just don't expect to completely understand what the heck is happening.
