I seldom offer praise to any actor and I have never rated a series as a perfect ten before. However, Dylan Wang's portrayal as Dongfang Qingcang is quite something to behold. He manages to endow this villainous character with pathos, depth and humor. Considering he has only been in a few projects, such as the series "Meteor Garden," he seems to have developed his talent with each role.
The overall plot was fascinating and the cast and direction were spot on. Having grown up watching Chinese movies, I was surprised how much I truly enjoyed the "Love Between Fairy and Devil" series. Sure, there was the usual melodrama, but the actors performed with just the correct amount of restraint, which avoided tainting the show with a cartoonish quality.
Definitely recommend this, however, I advise viewers to please be patient and allow the story to unfold at its own pace.

Great casting and an interesting plot. Starts off strongly but then seems to forget it's a musical for a bit. Loved Choi-Sung-eun.as Yoon Ah-Yi (whose face reminds me a little of Dakota Johnson) and Ji Chang-Wook as the Real Magician. Both actors have beautiful singing voices.
I was caught up in the story and found myself feeling as if I were watching "Peter Pan" because I wanted to shout, "I do believe in magic! I DO! I DO!"
If you have missed being able to see an original musical and cringe at the idea of "Grease" being revived for the umpteenth time, you will enjoy "The Sound of Magic."
NOTE: Whoever listed the cast for IMDB has Lisa Yamada as Yoon Ah-Yi but in fact she only did her English dubbed voice.

This version is so good - much MUCH better than most all the other stage versions I've had the opportunity to see. It captures the feeling of the movie version but also keeps most of the elements of the 1959 original Broadway version (with the exception of replacing "Something Good" for "An Ordinary Couple").
The sets also contribute to the brighter feel of this version. The sense of expansion evolves this musical by removing the stereotypical restrictions of the stage, while maintaining the musical play's structure.
Is this version perfect? No, but the cast and singing are. Kara Tointon, Julian Ovenden, the Von Trapp children, Maria Friedman, Katherine Kelly and Alexander Armstrong all do a wonderful job.
Did anyone else notice that Mel from "The Great British Baking Show" plays the housekeeper and the guy in full Nazi regalia is Mr. Collins from the "Pride and Prejudice" miniseries?
WELL DONE and BRAVO!
