I usually enjoy historical dramas and Masterpiece does them really well.
But this one is truly awful. So much shrieking and temper tantrums as imagined by the series desperate writers, so little actual history...
A certain amount of imagined interpersonal interactions is fine but this drama is all fantasized interactions and very little documented history fact. The historical cont seems almost an afterthought.
This is more appropriate for Coronation Street where I am sure the fans would rejoice in the totally unnecessary drama. But for something that is supposed to be a historical drama it is truly trash.

This is a wonderful, joyous show! I heartily recommend it!
It is neither cookie cutter nor pablum. It is a joyful upbeat show with great likeable characters but it is not not lacking in human insight.
Although it shows us a culture that is not super familiar, the characters feel like friends. It does not shy away from some darker subjects but leaves us laughing. It is the kind of show the whole family can watch but it doesnt talk down to us.
These are humanly flawed and very loveable prople.
This is very good TV. It covers a lot of ground but doesn't overwhelm us.
I sure hope this show does another season!

I like Allan Hawco and Josephine Jobert.
I like the back drop of St Pierre.
I like the bilingualism.
I want to like this show but until episode 6 it is one cliche after another.
But it really redeems itself in Episode 6! There may be hope for this show!
Up until episode 6 I thought this:
This is wIf you are a fan of cozy mysteries you will recognize every single plot of every single episode at the beginning of the show. Even the side stories are cliches. It is only the music that creates suspense.
Surely between France and Canada some writers with some creativity could be located...
Maybe send these two detectives out to comb these two countries and find a creative team capable of coming up with a plot worthy of the actors and the location.
