Perfectly cast series that creates a conundrum if you don't have spare time to get back to your watching. This series creates enough tension and drama that does leave the audience to guess "what is there left to solve or see", with each episode leading you to believe that every loose end has been neatly solved.
We had been looking for a new "true crime" or something along the lines of a dramatic series with twists and turns. This well has been dry for about a year. There have been a few series with a drop of a second season, that should have ended on their first, but at last they continued. This was a breathe of fresh air with a premise that isn't only intriguing but it honestly scratches the courtroom drama along with family dysfunction, and a true crime mystery, all at once!
The script is fresh, in the style of true human conversation, rather than an overtly forced Hollywood narrative. Forget the naysayers and enjoy this little gem.

This was definitely not film quality. The character were tropes. The plot line is like an after school special turned into a Lifetime movie due to adult themes. While it's watchable, everything is very contrived with no real depth to the dialogue and nothing is shocking.
I was honestly pulling for a breakthrough moment where a character would have a revelation or where k could truly connect to their emotions. But, sadly, that moment never came.
It definitely has the bones to build a decent movie off of it. But, if you're a seasoned fan of film, you'll want to watch something with more depth and weight after viewing. Unless you're looking to escape and have an escape from thinking, a la "Lifetime movie style", then here's your type of drama.

There's something to be said about being present. About building a plot, characters, structures, all while enjoying the work of the camera, lighting, costumers, the actors, the score, anticipating... like we once did.
Kravitz does a beautiful job at leaving Easter eggs along the road that leads to somewhere quite thrilling. I am glad that I read a bunch of bad to "meh" reviews before heading in to see what I expected tk be just another "blah" Hollywood scoop filled with sloppy fixings that were lazily drizzled over an overpriced platter for my hungry eyes to feast on, only to leave me hungry for the next film.
I was so very happily satisfied with Kravitz's debut! Filled with allegories but no preaching. No airbrushed bodies but real women, which makes them so much the more attractive to the eyes, and YES, you fall in love with each of their characters in their own unique style. It's about framing days, maybe a week(s), together and being fully immersed in THEIR experiences. As an audience member I did feel as if I was with them, in a voyeuristic manner. No reason to grab my phone to check the time... not a care in the world...
Until the beauty of their world becomes apparent to them. The entire tone shifts along with the sense of time. The entire film was unique and if everyone was in agreement then I'd suppose that it wasn't a winning piece of art!
We walked out talking about the ending, which was better than revenge and quite appropriate, and spent hours revisiting a few themes and scenes which has their flaws but still the movie is a triumphant introduction to the director's chair from Ms. Kravitz.
