.I started watching the movie without knowing anything else about it except that Mia Goth is in it and since she always depicts roles of a depraved hctib, I knew the movie would be weird, but this just doesn't awake any kind of feelings of me being invested in the story or the characters. Like the movie is a hollow shell and I cannot find anything that makes me feel like I'm watching something worth my time.

The acting is ignorant and bland and I get no sense of the characters, of their motives. I cannot comprehend why Mia Goth is so popular because she is always just so dull. Alexander Skarsgård is surprisingly lost in his role and not in a good way. The rest of the cast is whatever.

The depravity of the movie is there just for the sake of itself and doesn't add anything or make me understand anything. I'm glad I don't have to watch this again.

I saw this movie without spoilers and it was better that way because if I had known how much this movie has all this romantic stuff, I don't know if I had watched it. BUT there are a few things that make this a good movie and those are seeing Devon Sawa in a horror movie and the gore.

Seeing Sawa acting again was fun, for some reason ever since Final Destination I have just always liked him a lot and it was a surprise to me he is in this. Also, there was decent amount of gore to balance all the romantic stuff, so it didn't get boring. The comedy went a bit too silly at times, but I actually laughed a couple of times. Olivia Holt was actually funny and the whole cast seemed to understand well what the movie was about. It's not a masterpiece of horror but a genuinely decent attempt. I'd say this is a 6.5/10, so I'm giving it a 6.

I guess I should just give up trying to watch Eggers' movies. I did not like The Lighthouse or The VVitch, but I expected this to be a good movie. It commits the worst crime, it's bland and boring. From the beginning I'm supposed to feel this terror by a creature, but there is not one scary scene and the reason for this terror is so vague, give me something else than just basic gothic elements.

Depp is acting what I think is supposed to be a Victorian era robot. Her face is screaming "Look, I'm acting, I'm really sad can't you see" and I just feel irritated that these Nepobabies are getting parts over better actors. Nothing else explain why she got the role, because she is dull.. And when she gets possessed, I just laugh because her expressions are ridiculous. Hoult is a poor man's Cumberbatch and he must be really trying, but I just cannot feel the terror he's supposed to feel. Skarsgård looks ridiculous and the rest of the cast seems to be in a stage play. By the half point of this movie I find myself thinking about the crocery list for the next day.

Only reason why I'm giving this a 4/10 is because the sets looks fantastic and the cinematography is working well. Unfortunately that's it. Now I understand people who didn't like Hereditary and got pretty much shut down by the fans because everybody is supposed to think Hereditary is the next horror classic. I hear people complementing this movie and I just think "did we watch the same movie?" and people are surprised I didn't like this.
