Whenever watching either Remakes or Sequels (as in this case) to films which were regarded as "classics", I ask myself "why was this done?"
The Railway Children Return, is no exception. Lacking the warmth and charm of the original, a tedious, drawn-out, Yawn Fest and, unlike the original, instantly forgettable. Unfortunately not even the appearances of Jenny Agutter and Hugh Quarshie can prevent this turning into, at best, a mediocre film.
Quite what the motivation was behind making this is perplexing, although going by the storyline and some characters, possibly hoping to make it more appealing to a USA audience?
With the exception of the two actors mentioned, the only thing to relieve the tedium is the occasional sight of a train.
More annoying is the ubiquitous over loud sequences of background music from an orchestra - something which blights many films, and in this one is totally unnecessary.
Those behind this priduction should have looked at the original classic film and learned from it.
