Dennis Jürgensens "Kærlighed ved første hik" (along with "Hitchhikers'Guide to the Galaxy, which was also butchered when it was adopted to film)was one of the books that helped me survive the eighties. It was one of the only books that I could relate to at the time. When you are living in a suburb, a bit of a nerd and in love with the pretty girl in the class it's actually about your life. That's why I guess so many of us could relate to it. But seeing this great work savagely butchered made me sad. First of all it's not funny, it's miscast-ed and badly acted and badly adapted. You don't get any sort of chance to live yourself into the leading character and the portrayal of the youths is at best superficial. Well, maybe it's just my love for the book and the role it played for me as a t(w)eenager that has made me so disappointed, maybe the movie really IS funny and I have grown into a grumpy old man, but still...

Puke, puke,vomit,Arrrgh!!!! The worst piece of TV Drama(?) ever made in this country. Miscasted, terrible acting, sloppy instruction, sets that are even more fake than those of "Plan Nine from outer Space". You can tell that the actors are trying to make the best of their rolls, but you can also see how uncomfortable and utterly embarrassed they feel about participating in such a pile of garbage, except off course Per Pallesen. If this was japan... When the revolution comes i'm sure the film rolls, video tapes and even DVD's (oh yes, it has actually been re- released) will all be gathered and burned on a big bonfire, which we will all dance around.

I totally agree with Phrankster."Walter and Carlo" IS Denmark in the eighties. Everyone had been to Spain on Charter Holidays and the "folk comedy" genre was what we had all grown up with, so we could all relate to it, in opposition to the more "art cinema" oriented films. It is actually funny and bit anarchistic, and was a big office hit as far as I remember. Jarl Friis Mikkelsen and Ole Stephensen do a rather good job trying to revive the folk comedy, but...making TWO sequels, each one worse than the other. Well, Hollywood does it all the time. Anyway, that was what filled the seats at the time when movie theaters were closing down one by another around the country.
