And it all started out so promising. Great book, great previous movie from Hitchcock, and a great cast. Yet, the movie falls short and does not deliver on anything. Why change a perfectly great book? Why change the script? It was not outdated, nor was it dull, but this script does not do the original source any justice, and unfortunately the acting even feels dull. All characters lack the depth they have in the book, especially Maxim de Winters. Not only does the beginning of the movie feel rushed, but for the first time ever, I was seriously bothered by the music. To sum up a book that has so much more to offer than just a banal love story, turns into exactly what it is not, a banal, wannabe eerie "fast food" love story. A remake, an adoption that will just as quickly be forgotten as it was consumed.

For people who find romantic movies boring and inedible, here comes a movie you might be able to enjoy with someone who strives to watch a romantic comedy. Not only is the movie funny, but all in it's place: It dose not overly exaggerate, it includes the audience in the spectacle, keeps them in action and not to forget makes them end up with a smile on their face. Brittany Murphy played her part adorably well and catches the heart of the viewer, not to mention us wanting her to be happy and find the one "true love". I can only speak for myself when I say I dislike tacky romantic comedies, as mentioned before this was very much kept in limit. I will certainly watch it again and will further recommend it.
