Quite amusing ,,, but i am a mother-tongue Frenchman and genuinely cannot understand these Quebec folks at all (Quebec folks think we are joking but i am earnest here-)
Just occasionally. So I watched it with a French sub and even then i couldn't even match the written to the spoken
So I ended up using the ENG sub; just the same as if I were watching a film in Mandarin
Let us be clear this is not French it is French Canadian like Jamaican Patois if you are an English speaker about as understandable no more
To the film now. Broadly about couples relationships and done very stylishly the 2 men end up drifting on a pedal-boat out in the Caribbean talking deep about their lives and long friendship
The women one a mum in her late 40s and a 26-year old talk about men sex life and it is quite entertaining
We are looking at no masterpiece here but it is interesting to see winter Quebecois hanging around in an all-inclusive Cuban resort and see the cultural exchange and gaps between the 2
Mildly amusing and quirky is the best one can say here; unusual too.

This has got to win a prize for bad casting of an actress.
The woman here, she may be a very good actress in the German language, but frankly in English it is barely understandable at times.
I had to run subtitles to understand quite a lot of what she said.
Germans usually speak very good English but there are notable exceptions and we have one here.
The other thing which would make me think this is a miscast is that she has a bodytype that would indicate she probably made sure she never got to a PE lesson when she was at school.
Frankly, she really does not fit the bill here at all, not even a bit.
The film is made by a German director and we have had over the years German films made in America, most notably Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders and other films by him.
We have also many Scandinavians who have made films in the USA, French directors too occasionally.
It is a really difficult thing to do.
The European energy feeding this film does not sit well with for example Ving Rhames here, a native of Harlem.
It doesn't really blend well.
Also the pace of the film, more reminiscent of a 1970/80s movie, maybe even Paris, Texas where everything moved at snail's pace.
Frankly, this is very, very underwhelming.
There are two stories running parallel here.
That is quite a clever device, but frankly, it is a little clumsy in parts.
You could say terrible things about this film and you could also praise it.
We can see that from the reviews of others.
Some give it one, some give it ten.
And as usual, the answer probably lies somewhere in the middle.
Anyway, nowhere near a masterpiece.
Nowhere near the worst thing you'll ever see.
But yeah, probably worth a pass.

So why is VV present? He is a comedian. Also he is merely a tiny bit Italian it seems according to his bio
So maybe not the best choice here. The movie here is slow ; made for the elderly and redefines the words predictable and cliché time and time again
It also plays on the constant American ploy of fighting against all odds and coming up trumps (ok can we even say that in 2025) at the eleventh hour ... as if as if
But having said all that it is watchable and at times enjoyable. The food sequences are generic and totally uninspired; but my main question remains; why VV here? That is not a role for him. A touch of Italian in his makeup probably got him here; hey maybe he just loves ossobuco and wanted in ...
