I always found Gadsby super witty and edgy, but this one is so put on it fails to be counted as comedy. Gadsby definitely lost her edge here, telling "normal" jokes something she really doesn't have an advantage in. And all the name dropping is so tedious. I couldn't even follow the storyline of her meeting with Jody Foster, among others. She sounded as if she is not convinced of her own jokes, which makes sense. The tone is flat and monotonous, it's as if she is banking on her fans liking her that she is not bothered to put in the effort. It really doesn't work when the comedy is entirely 100% about you! You're interesting but not THAT interesting. Sorry Hannah thumbs down for me for this one.
This is the ultimate wisdom from this brilliant drama. I say drama reluctantly because what I know of the region tells me it's very true to form. And that's the heart breaking fact about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which is used and abused to the hilt by outsider interests and involvement. Showing the heavy social and relationship losses, as well as loss of life of course, on both sides that come from engaging in a war mentality is its strongest point. And yet neither side believes they have a choice in the matter but to fight which is truly bizarre. Is this just human folly or are we looking at bigger interests behind the scene that keep stocking the fires of pride and revenge for their own benefit perhaps? Absolutely loved it, so much food for thought.
Middle Eastern screens are littered with weekly written tragedies like this one, the primary aim is to play with your heart strings, and not so much to provoke your thought. Not sure why Kingsley put his name to it, less so Connelly, really baffled by this.
