Imagine a country in which justice system has been a playground for the rich, whereas the only choice for the poor is to acquiesce. Imagine a country in which the only typical plot for series is cheating, often "beautified" by spineless characters and indecent plots. This series is here to break the cycle with its plot & characters. And This series was born from this country. This means a lot! This means a spark of hope, a sign of positive change and many more things.
It is as if a mixture of the series called Sahsiyet (Persona) and other crime movies were wrapped around and turned into something original and thus a masterpiece was born! This series needs to be immediately translated into English and other languages.
I rarely leave reviews on movies/series in IMDB, but I couldn't stop myself from praising this masterpiece and give it what it deserves, making everyone see once again that this series should never be forgotten and it needs to be talked about, showed in every place possible!

I'd like to say this one is probably one of the less disturbing but more mysterious movies by Lynch, because the story line is somewhat typical but it is enhanced by disturbing scenes.
I don't know if I am the only one who thinks there was a bit of a young David Lynch in Jeffrey in terms of his looks and a bit of his character. There is not much standing out for the character Jeffrey, because he represents a typical man who has his own fears, desires, conscience and so on just like a typical human. However, the mysterious and disturbing parts of the movie were backed by mostly Frank and somewhat Dorothy.
My interpretation is, Frank was abused severely as a kid, most likely by his mother so he ended up developing perverted fantasies and a sick perception of intimacy. So he ended up being very abusive.
Dorothy, on the other hand, fell victim to abuser Frank that was also abused, just like in a non-ending vicious cycle. She, however, developed a masochistic victim mentality as a result and could not receive real love and affection Jeffrey offered to her.
The name of the movie "blue velvet", probably symbolises some traumatic experience the first abused character Frank had to go through and then passed on to others. However, it was not exactly expressed in a highly mysterious and shocking and disturbing way. It was a bit complicated and failed to give the expected shock and disturbance to the audience and that, in my humble opinion, is the biggest reason why this movie didn't get a better score.

This is not your typical drama movies, in which you happen to see exaggerated events with dramatic turns. This is not the typical crime movie either, in the sense that the villain is not someone you'd come across to in most of the crime movies. The villain is not a serial killer, but a serial manipulator. You see more than a cold-hearted, neat, sociopathic, power freak murderer. You see a coach who herself is the victim of the system, reflecting the guilt and utter shame the system caused back to other victims of the same system.
Nothing is black and white in this series. Just like life itself, everyone in the series is somewhat responsible for the tragedies they experience in and outside the castle. That makes the story more touchy and impressive.
The narration is celeverly thought and expressed. The story has good suspension and turning points. It is so satisfying, also, to finally see a series/movie having a more detailed ending, again, making the story a lot more realistic and impressive. You don't have a open ending, or the events don't get intense in the end. The events get intense and get solved the episode before the ending and then in the ending you happened to see everyone's growth and happiness in detail, which makes it quite satisfactory.
The topic choice is on point. As I am a Turkish person, I can relate to almost everything related to this series, since, just like in Korea, Turkish students including myself, have struggled from the same issues if not more. Assumably, someone from Europe would find it hard to relate to the topic, but it affects so many young people and their parents sometimes to that extend as it was shown in the series. Therefore, I believe It is also useful for people and families that are in these situations.
To sum up, It is a very fullfilling, uplifting and satisfying series to watch. I would definitely recommend it to everyone, whether or not they have experienced the same/similar issues. All things aside, it's a great drama and crime series and it would be great to see the new season soon!
