I've been very much looking forward to this film since they first announced it, as I read and LOVED the book The Salt Path by Raynor Winn (and her other books as well).
I finally got to see it now and it didn't disappoint. Sure, they changed a few things from the book, which I think they had to, to make it work on the screen. Mostly they stayed very close to the book though, right down to the exact same dialogues at some points. So this film is especially fun for people who read the book.
Also very happy with the main casting, Jason Issacs was a brilliant choice for Moth and Gillian Anderson is just brilliant as Raynor Winn. By watching the film you can really feel how passionate everyone, including Gillian and Jason were about the book.
The many beautiful scenes of the stunning British Coastline, accompanied by beautiful music by Chris Roe invites you to just dream away and take a break of the hustle of everyday life.
Another highlight is the hair and make up design by Emily Bilverstone, especially on Gillian Anderson. Not using traditional make up, no foundation, only adding sunburns and affects to make her look weatherworn. Especially nowadays when the beauty industry and Hollywood keeps telling women they're not allowed to age, it is really refreshing to see a middle aged actress barefaced on the big screen. And it really makes Gillian Anderson shine even more. More of this in the future please.
Altogether a very well made film and great work by the whole team. A film about a couple that lost their home and livelihood, showing what really is most important in life - not the things we posses, but people who love us. And that we can can overcome every hardship, no matter how desperate the situation might feel.
Raynor and Moth take you on a walk along the South West Coastline and invite you to escape everyday life for about two hours.
So what are you waiting for? Go and watch this film (and read the book if you haven't yet).

This film deserves more attention!!!
I read the graphic novel and the novel to the film beforehand and was absolutely in love with it. So I was desperately waiting for the film to finally be released (which took ages due to several postponements, but well worth the wait.) I had very high expectations for the film and I wasn't disappointed! They were super close to the original story and masterfully turned it into a film that invites you to dream, but also moves you to tears. The film is incredibly moving and quite heartbreaking, but at the same time so incredibly beautiful and magical. I think they beautifully managed the balance between teen romance and historical narrative of nazi-occupied France in the 1940s.
I especially enjoyed Gillian Anderson's performance, which was outstanding! Although she had (as expected) a quite small role, she did once again incredibly well. And her performance really stuck with me. Especially later in the film (which I can't tell about, because I don't want to spoiler), her performance was heartbreakingly impressive and convincing.
But not only Gillian's performance was great, I was really impressed by Ariella Glaser and Orlando Schwerdt who played the main characters Sara and Julien! And come one Helen Mirren as grandmère?
So all in all a beautiful film which deserves all the praise it can get!

I really love the book by Roald Dahl and kind of grew up with the film adaption from 1990. This new film adaptation is quite disappointing, since it's not really close to the book... even the ending was changed completely and does not live up the original story by Roald Dahl.
So, stick to the book, or the old film adaptation from 1990.
