Paul Giamatti's performance in this ever evolving episode is simply amazing. This is one of the greatest episodes of tv I've ever seen. The people rating it with anything less than seven stars are either professional misery trolls, or depressed.
Paul Giamatti is a revelation. At first he claims to barely know a woman from his past, but as he is allowed to "enter" his old photographs, an interesting trick, we begin to see he's either in denial, or has (tried?) to forget.
But as the story unfolds his ever growing grief, regret, and shame carry the episode. By the end, you're emotionally drained. But don't let that stop you from missing great television.
The 2025 Emmy Acting Awards nominated Rashida Jones for another Black Mirror episode. Not nominating Giamatti for this one is a complete disgrace.

Yes, the production values were excellent. The cinematography as well. And there were a couple of shockingly horrific scenes.
But there were several spots that really dragged. How many times did I have to hear about the Nosferatu character that "He's coming." ? Well get there already!
I can't say I'm an expert on the original story, but there was no reason for the director to stick to it faithfully. Was there this much of the Depp character in it? This thin sickly "girl" is the film's focal point? I was losing interest in her. Far better to focus on would have been her friend, the actress that played Diana in The Crown.
Ah well, me, a horror fan, got bored half way through. I so wanted to like it.
